Pop TV actually has three wins. One Day at a Time won a multi-cam award a few nights ago.

ReplyCopy URLSeptember 19, 2020 at 10:19 pm #1203719636EVERY FEMALE in Best actress Drama is deserving except for Sandra Oh. Yes , I think Laura Linney was bets in category but I wouldn’t be mad with anyone in category winning Bc they all were great on their shows except again Sandra Oh, which I wouldn’t mind winning so we can stop hearing how she has never won. .

I see Guest is back to harp about TGP and broadcast TV. How many accounts is that now? 🤔

I have lost count. Marked his new posts as spam and Tom will block this incarnation soon. He has been saying lately that he will not leave because he has not gotten an adequate answer for why he was banned. We have given him the answer (even publicly in now-spam-deleted threads that he created), which is why he qualifies with “adequate”. There will never be an answer that is adequate for him, so he will just say that forever.
Anti-Asian sentiment is strong on this site.
Is it though?
Having see Cherry Jones in THT and Defending Jacob, I simply do not see the appeal. The only thing I can guess is that she embodies the aunt a lot of white voters wish they had.
I have scarcely seen a better drama supporting actress performance than hers in the final season of 24, which she did not submit. Tape after tape! I put it right up there with Thandie Newton in the first season of Westworld and Anna Gunn in the last of Breaking Bad. What I have seen from her since then has not been nearly as challenging.
The way Cherry actually gave a deserving performance but her win last year was just so bad she is literally just a bad winner in general.
Quoting for emphasis. I automatically assume now that a win means that voters were lazy; that she had the goods is merely coincidental.
ReplyCopy URLSeptember 19, 2020 at 10:57 pm #1203719673As someone who predicted Cherry Jones winning, I’d be careful with those Snook predictions. They absolutely love Cherry Jones, so much so that she won last year for 2 mins of screentime.
We saw them go to Ron Cephas Jones over James Cromwell in Guest Actor, even though This is Us missed series and got its lowest number of acting nominations this year.
So I’m thinking given Cherry Jones own track record, and Cephas Jones winning over Cromwell, it would be safer to exercise caution with Snook in supporting actress.
Also as someone who predicted Maisel in Cinematography, it’s not winning series. Schitt’s Creek has that in the bag. It won casting, randomly won costumes (I thought Unorthodox was winning), and while it lost editing (potentially vote splitting), it didnt lose to Maisel… it lost to Insecure.
Maisel lost both guest acting awards, lost hairstyling to Hollywood, lost production design, and costumes. And despite the frontrunner vote splitting in editing, it couldn’t capitalize. It’s also snubbed for writing.
I do find it impressive that it won Sound Mixing. And I do think Maisel is winning directing though.
ReplyCopy URLSeptember 19, 2020 at 11:20 pm #1203719681There’s an Eddie Murphy acceptance speech, but I didn’t see it on the show. I’m assuming he did it after the fact.
ReplyCopy URLSeptember 19, 2020 at 11:37 pm #1203719685Schitt’s Creek’s costumes have been praised often. It was the only below the line nom they had last year and they won the Guild award earlier this year for S5, so I wouldn’t call it “random”. Catherine O’Hara accepted for the show and was naturally hilarious. Can’t wait for her speech on Sunday. 🤞🏽
ReplyCopy URLSeptember 19, 2020 at 11:47 pm #1203719687Definitely not ‘random’ but Unorthodox certainly had the showier submission (that Pope outfit aside). I think Schitt’s winning Costumes is just as much an acknowledgement of the key role costuming has played over its whole run as it is of the actual submitted episode.
ReplyCopy URLSeptember 20, 2020 at 12:22 am #1203719723Sure, and they had the momentum going in (prior nom and Guild win). It feels like Hair Makeup Costumes groups vote more for the whole season than the single submissions but who knows. Not judging who should win, I just didn’t think it was a “random” win for SC.
ReplyCopy URLSeptember 20, 2020 at 12:24 am #1203719728Let me put Sterling top 3. Reminder it’s also the first year he isnt against Milo.
And Ron Cephas Jones won for the episode Brown submitted
