Premise: Daisy Jones & The Six follows “a rock band in the 1970s from their rise in the LA music scene to becoming one of the most famous bands in the world and explores the reason behind their split at the height of their success.” The Amazon Prime Video series is based on Taylor Jenkins Reid’s book of the same name, which the author describes was partly inspired by her experience growing up and by watching Fleetwood Mac performances on television.
Cast: Riley Keough, Sam Claflin, Camila Morrone, Suki Waterhouse, Will Harrison, Josh Whitehouse, Sebastian Chacon, Nabiyah Be, Tom Wright, Timothy Olyphant.

Sam Claflin is already outperforming everyone else in his category .
Riley is fun to watch and Camilla Morrone is the MVP.

It’s not a bad show by any means (unlike The Dropout it is actually quite fun) but if it weren’t for the third episode finally getting past what would have been a 20 minute mark in a movie, I probably wouldn’t have decided to continue watching it because there wouldn’t have been any point (aside from a couple of the performances).
Perhaps I’m being a bit harsh on it because I’ve been watching Fleishman is in Trouble concurrently and it has been using the episodic format extraordinarily well but it is what it is.

March 21, 2023 at 1:51 pm #1205358949no idea how to post it but Taylor Jenkins Reid posted a video with Riley split screen dueting with this version from Simuliu on her TikTok. Sam Claflin commented that he was out of a job and she responded telling him to hit the road lol
ReplyCopy URLMarch 21, 2023 at 2:30 pm #1205358979Yea it was a real risk spreading out what was essentially just background information across 2 and a half episodes. It’s pretty boring to watch for ep 1 and 2, but once the band finally gets together it gets much better and stays that way for the rest of the season. I’m sure it’s probably from the book, but not really sure why it couldn’t have just started with a band who’s lead singer is fresh out of rehab and looking for a comeback getting paired with an up and coming singer. I hope people stick with it because 8/10 episodes are very worth it!
ReplyCopy URLMarch 21, 2023 at 3:13 pm #1205359017I think people are sticking with it as it has stayed in the top 2 in the five eyes countries since the show hit, interestingly with different number 1/2 in the differing countries. It doesn’t appear to be doing as well in some other parts of the world but I doubt Amazon are that bothered about that.
From an Amazon perspective, we will likely never find out how successful it is their key metrics unless it is so far off the charts they write a 2nd season out of nowhere for it. I say this because Amazon isn’t judging this solely on viewers, it has set up Daisy specific Amazon stores and is racking up synergies with clothing both band specific and through partnerships, beauty products, albums, book sales etc. It is those unknown metrics which the honchos at Amazon will be rightly or wrongly be pouring over. I have no idea of the volumes they sell but the free people range prices are outrageous. Quite clever really but the new boss at TV wanted this from the outset.

Someone said that they should have been older for the interview sections and he replied saying I wonder why we did that!
ReplyCopy URLMarch 24, 2023 at 8:19 am #1205362333Rewatching 9 and 10 – my god is Keough a Tour de force in the first 4 minutes of 9 with Gold Dust Woman playing in the background. I have no idea if she is nominated whether the would submit 8, 9 or 10
the acapella section leading up to the overdose, the on stage moment with Waterhouse, the chemistry with Claflin at the Chicago concert, the call with her mum, the portrayal of an addict during highs and lows, the interactions with Camilla, the interaction with the young fan plus the vocals are incredible
What a line mum, next time you want to hear my voice, try the fu*king radio is lol
Also Sebastian Chalcon brought the humour as Warren
I wrongly though Camila Morrone would be awful and she’s not
The last 3 are so strong, pay off was great considering the 2 and half episode slow build at the start
