Well, yeah. What I rather meant is that she isn’t necessarily a recognizable name, which could hurt her. I’ve decided to put her in my predictions though because I don’t see why they’d nominate Tobias Menzies and Charles Dance but not her – especially if she’s being pushed by Netflix. But I am so not confident in that prediction.

I have faith that she’s getting in and like you said if they nominate both Tobias and Charles then I don’t see how she doesn’t get in. Not to mention she had a much more acclaimed and talked about performance than both of them (especially Dance).
If voters really want to nominate her they will obviously learn her name. I just don’t see how they have her as their personal winner and not going to check her off…

Lapotaire definitely doesn’t have a more talked about and acclaimed performance than Menzies. To be honest, I also think I’ve heard more about Dance than I have about Lapotaire. I’m saying this as someone who loves her and wants her to win.
ReplyCopy URLJune 15, 2020 at 6:59 am #1203533897Most of Menzies mentions in the reviews talked about how much better he was in the role than Smith but that was it. At least from what I’ve read or maybe I just exaggerated by comparing his performance to Jane’s. But whenever I talk about The Crown to people Jane always pops up and most of the time I don’t even mention her name. People come up with her quite naturally and say how much they loved her and want her to win the Emmy. I haven’t heard a single person talk about Dance tbh. Even in here people don’t talk about him that often. Also the main reason many are predicting him is because he’s overdue (and that was told to me in here).

It will be someone from THT and Jason BatemanJune 15, 2020 at 8:40 am #1203534053Lapotaire is definitely more acclaimed and talked about (in both fan circles and press) than Dance from what I’ve seen.
I agree that Lapotaire is more acclaimed, but I’ve personally heard more mentions of Dance, likely due to him being a respected veteran while she’s relatively unknown, and also because he had a more prominent role.
Anyway, I still stand by my point that Menzies is more talked about and acclaimed than Lapotaire. I haven’t heard anywhere near as much praise and talk for her as I have for him.

Why are we acting like Jason Bateman is suddenly some kind of Emmy favorite?

Yeah I got a little bit excited and I exaggerated in that regard. But trust me when I say (and it seems like everyone is saying it as well) that Jane is way more acclaimed than Dance. I’m in a lot of series and movies groups and whenever The Crown is the subject of the conversation Jane pops up very easily. And people are extremely passionate about her. I don’t remember Charles popping up in the conversations at all, unless we are discussing whos getting in for the show (obviously).
ReplyCopy URLJune 15, 2020 at 11:51 am #1203534474I question how likely The Crown is to score nominations in the Guest categories this year. In the previous 2 seasons it only scored 1 Guest Actor nom. This 3rd season was the least acclaimed and/or celebrated of the series (not saying it was bad)… why do some of you think it can score 2 Guest noms now if it couldn’t before??
I think the only 2 series that realistically stand a great shot at scoring multiple Guest noms are The Handmaid’s Tale and This is Us.
ReplyCopy URLJune 16, 2020 at 5:55 am #1203536068Lapotaire & Dance are obviously great. And I hope she will win.
But seriously Chaplin’s performance was also great. Her name should be on Drama Guest Actress list already.

Because we know that slightly less critical acclaim doesn’t translate to worse Emmy performance and from its SAG ensemble win that actors are still watching the show (if not more now). If actors are watching it is impossible not to check off Lapotaire and also Dance may receive some goodwill after being snubbed all those years for GoT.
Also stop this “season 3 of The Crown” is the least acclaimed bs. It has the highest Rotten Tomatoes score of all the three seasons and although it isn’t as well received on Metacritic as season 2 it still has a better Metacritic score than season 1.

Don’t forget her scene partner Jacobi.
Those two are being robbed of nominations. The only good thing about them not being on the ballot is that they won’t subtract from Dance and Lapotaire’s votes.
ReplyCopy URLJune 16, 2020 at 6:42 am #1203536166I vividly remember watching Lapotaire’s episode and googling immediately after who she was, what she has been in, etc. and thinking she was a shoo-in for a guest nomination. I would really love for her to win.
