For the people that watch This Is Us, who do you guys think is more likely to join Rashad in a nomination, Adlon or Morrison? I currently have the latter getting in, but I would love to know what you guys think.
Adlon. She’s first in the ballot and spends majority of her screentime fantastically sparring against Sterling. Morrison has more “actor-y” material though, an actually arc is featured more heavily throughout the season. Dependent on how much of the season is actually seen, I wouldn’t be shocked if Rachel Hilson (College Beth) ends up as a surprise nominee.

I agree. I think only Matt Neglia predicted him because he was convinced voters would go for someone from THT.
ReplyCopy URLJuly 22, 2020 at 2:44 pm #1203596513That is because a lot of people (who don’t necessarily predict the Emmys for 6 months before the nominations come out, like us) don’t always understand that it’s not all about names. If voters watched THT’s third season, they are not going to go for Chris Meloni over O-T Fagbenle.
ReplyCopy URLJuly 22, 2020 at 4:20 pm #1203596623Because his category is absolutely laughable after the top 4-5 contenders. And actors could very well be voting with both seasons in mind given that they were not aware of the show’s existence for S1.
It was nominated for drama series and won for writing. They were aware.
ReplyCopy URLJuly 22, 2020 at 4:30 pm #1203596634The explanation that actors aren’t aware of a show that has been winning industry awards since the beginning is flimsy. That’s not the reason Succession hasn’t been nominated for an acting award by them yet.
ReplyCopy URLA Negroni. Sbagliato. With Prosecco in it.
July 22, 2020 at 4:34 pm #1203596637Adlon who appears once or twice later in the season and isn’t mentioned again.
Does she even have a name lol

I “liked” this, but I will also lampshade my own hypocrisy in predicting Cherry Jones over Julie Dretzin. My justification is that it is less about about voters favouring Fagbenle in the third season over Meloni and more about how fans of The Handmaid’s Tale are going to be voting Fagbele and I am not sure that anyone is going to be voting Meloni. He clearly does not have Jones name-check powers. My predictions were less convoluted a few months ago.

Riley just a quick question. I listened to the recent Awards Watch podcast and Amanda Spears said she checked the rules and she’s sure that an actor can’t be double nominated in any acting category. Can you confirm this?!

After reading your article today I have begun to second guess my prediction of Jones. We’ve seen time and time again how the buzzier or newer/more recent performance of a performer on the ballot twice ends up getting nominated and the older performance gets snubbed. I mean a lot of us predicting Reese for TMS instead of BLL are justifying the prediction with this theory of “newer vs older” so I wonder if the same theory may affect Cherry Jones like it did for Tina Fey when she won for SNL.
Comedy Guest Actress is all over the place. I have no idea who to predict.

I do not what rule she is checking. We have had actors double-nominated before.

When and where? We are speaking about two nominations in the same year and in the same category, not in the same year for different categories.

Yes. Thats also my question. That subject came along when they were predicting Drama Guest Actress and Amanda said Cherry can’t be nominated twice…
ReplyCopy URLJuly 23, 2020 at 7:26 am #1203597462Short Form Actress and Narrator in 2017. Amanda messaged me on Sunday to ask whether someone could be double-nominated; I do not know if this was before they recorded the podcast and she decided to ignore what I said or if it was after because she worried that she had misspoken. Regardless, the rules say that the top vote-getters get the nomination and nothing more. We regularly see people double-nominated in non-acting categories.
