Girl, you’re truly pressed. I absolutely despise The Boremaid’s Tale but I’m not blind. It got so many nods last year for 3 hanging episodes that had aired a year ago. It still repeated at SAG over two time winner TIU and still got in at WGA. Its freshness is over and that’s why stuff like PGA have dropped it, but it’s still prestigious and still popular. And above all, other than the 3 frontrunners, the category is definition of mess. If THT isn’t a sure bet idk what is. With that WGA nod, it’s in for Writing, and since Directing isn’t exactly stacked either, it’s very possible there as well, given that they’re pushing one episode for both categories (just like last year for an irrelevant episode) which is also the finale and the most praised of the season.

I actually am a fan of The Handmaid’s Tale.

We already know The Handmaid’s Tale benefitted last year from a weaker field and the fact its third season was airing at the same time as voting last year.

Also they are not pushing one episode for both categories and even if they were how is Directing not stacked when there are literally two episodes of The Crown competing, two episodes of Ozark, two episodes of Succession, incumbent winner Jason Bateman for The Outsider and Lesli Linka Glatter competing for the final season of Homeland. That’s without even mentioning the possibility of Mindhunter or Stranger Things making it in.

    Oscars FYC:
"THE POWER OF THE DOG" – IN ALL CATEGORIES
"SPENCER" – In all categories especially Director (Pablo Larrain) and Actress (Kristen Stewart)
"SHIVA BABY" – in all categories especially Picture, Adapted Screenplay, Score
"TOGETHER" – Actress (Sharon Horgan), Actor (James McAvoy), Original Screenplay
    "FLEE" – IN ALL CATEGORIES
"LAST NIGHT IN SOHO" – Director (Edgar Wright), S. Actress (Anya Taylor-Joy/Diana Rigg), Cinematography, Costume Design and Production Design

If Succession doesn’t score any acting nominations and Ozark is snubbed in writing again, would this mean The Crown is the winner? I find the first case highly unlikely to happen but how many acting nominations does Succession need in order to win series?

    4. Both The Handmaid’s Tale and GoT s6 managed to win Drama Series in years with similar levels of competition with this number of acting nominations (with THT winning 3/4 of its nominations).

Well, they’re kinda pushing two episodes in both writing and directing. In writing, the second title happens to be “Liars,” which was equally acclaimed. We’ll see. Vote-splitting shouldn’t be a factor though since voters have unlimited slots.

I hope they won’t vote split (they were my two favourite episodes of this season of THT).

This year it will be interesting to see what vote splits and what doesn’t. Whether it’s with Mrs. America in the Supporting Actress and Writing and Directing races or The Handmaid’s Tale in writing and directing.
