If the Emmys decided to introduce Best Dramedy Series (along with Dramedy Actor, Actress, S. Actor and S. Actress) who do you think based on the 2017 nominations would fill out the Comedy categories and the Dramedy categories (assuming shows like Transparent and Shameless get moved to Dramedy).July 15, 2017 at 6:24 pm #1202153624This post was found to be inappropriate by the moderators and has been removed.July 15, 2017 at 9:03 pm #1202153665
There’s already enough categories. Not everything needs to get nominated. And no matter how many categories there are things will get snubbed. If anything, they should get rid of genre categorization.July 16, 2017 at 1:33 am #1202153845
Transparent is not a Dramedy, it’s a drama, period.July 16, 2017 at 1:50 am #1202153899
I think a better solution is probably to just get rid of comedy/drama classification.July 16, 2017 at 1:45 pm #1202154201
NO MORE categories, please!
Here’s a dirty little secret for ya: Transparent, no matter how you wanna categorize it, is just so painfully unwatchable and overwrought despite having a (mostly) excellent cast in it…
There’s just too many comedies that are flat-out funnier, and of course too many dramas that are more compelling without being over-manipulative (obviously, I’m NOT including House of Cards and Homeland here)…July 16, 2017 at 1:53 pm #1202154206
With network TV slowly disappearing at the Emmys, there is really no such thing as the classic sitcom anymore. Black-ish, while on network TV, deals with serious issues. As cable companies and the lstreaming giants are making more high quality television, all good comedies have drama in them and there are not very many comedies that are just for laughs. I don’t watch Transparent, but I can say that OITNB Season 1 is a very different show than OITNB Season 4. Maybe comedies that are dramedies can make the switch like OITNB did if they are getting more like a drama. But no, we do not need a dramedy category.July 16, 2017 at 2:59 pm #1202154222
Yeah there’s no way this works. I also think Transparent is a dramedy, I laugh a lot at every episode. OITNB should also be allowed to compete as a comedy imo, I mean, it’s funnier than Shameless.

Also A Series of Unfortunate Events is without a doubt a comedy.
I am semi-retired on GoldDerby. Still predicting but infrequent in the forums. I am sorry for my past behaviour.July 16, 2017 at 7:35 pm #1202154435
Honey, there are like a thousand fucking categories already.July 17, 2017 at 8:38 am #1202155118
For sake of the thread …
I would say
Divorce ( though i hated it )
Series of unfortunate Events
Master of none / i think this could be in this category
I would say all those are dramedys
I dont watch Atlanta or insecure
So then if we pulled out the people nominated for those shows
Jeffrey – Replace with Thomas Middleditch ( silicon valley)
William- Replace with Billy Eichner ( Diffcult people )
Aziz – Replace with Jim Parson
Uzo Aduba – Replace with Aubry Plaza
Judith Light – replace with Jane Krackowiz
Kathryn Hahn- Replace with Rita Moreno
Laverne Cox- Replace with June Squibb- Greys Anatomy
Becky ann baker – Replace with Maya Rudolph – UKS

For me it’s okay if we keep dividing the categories into comedy and drama. But we need to avoid frauds such as Transparent, OITNB, Shameless, True Detective… Even Sherlock.September 14, 2017 at 10:31 am #1202212750
Whats taking so long to get a dramedy category? There are more than enough dramedy type shows to full 5 slots every year.
Comedy is supposed to make me laugh not bawl my eyes out. Technically the category is best performance in a comedy series and not best comedic performance but still if its a comedy series you’d expect a comedic performance.
Take Claws for example and especially Survivors Remorse how on earth can you place those shows in a category other than dramedy. I have no idea what Survivors Remorse is and I don’t even think the writers do its so all over the place it could never compete successfully in comedy or drama it has no identity other than dramedy. Not now
