If the Emmys decided to introduce Best Dramedy Series (along with Dramedy Actor, Actress, S. Actor and S. Actress) who do you think based on the 2017 nominations would fill out the Comedy categories and the Dramedy categories (assuming shows like Transparent and Shameless get moved to Dramedy).

Not everything needs to get nominated. And no matter how many categories there are things will get snubbed. If anything, they should get rid of genre categorization.

ReplyCopy URLJuly 16, 2017 at 1:50 am #1202153899I think a better solution is probably to just get rid of comedy/drama classification.
ReplyCopy URLJuly 16, 2017 at 1:45 pm #1202154201NO MORE categories, please!
Here’s a dirty little secret for ya: Transparent, no matter how you wanna categorize it, is just so painfully unwatchable and overwrought despite having a (mostly) excellent cast in it…
There’s just too many comedies that are flat-out funnier, and of course too many dramas that are more compelling without being over-manipulative (obviously, I’m NOT including House of Cards and Homeland here)…

Black-ish, while on network TV, deals with serious issues. As cable companies and the lstreaming giants are making more high quality television, all good comedies have drama in them and there are not very many comedies that are just for laughs. I don’t watch Transparent, but I can say that OITNB Season 1 is a very different show than OITNB Season 4. Maybe comedies that are dramedies can make the switch like OITNB did if they are getting more like a drama. But no, we do not need a dramedy category.
ReplyCopy URLJuly 16, 2017 at 2:59 pm #1202154222Yeah there’s no way this works. I also think Transparent is a dramedy, I laugh a lot at every episode. OITNB should also be allowed to compete as a comedy imo, I mean, it’s funnier than Shameless.

ReplyCopy URLJuly 17, 2017 at 8:38 am #1202155118For sake of the thread …

July 17, 2017 at 1:05 pm #1202155356For me it’s okay if we keep dividing the categories into comedy and drama. But we need to avoid frauds such as Transparent, OITNB, Shameless, True Detective… Even Sherlock.
ReplyCopy URLSeptember 14, 2017 at 10:31 am #1202212750Whats taking so long to get a dramedy category? There are more than enough dramedy type shows to full 5 slots every year.
Comedy is supposed to make me laugh not bawl my eyes out. Technically the category is best performance in a comedy series and not best comedic performance but still if its a comedy series you’d expect a comedic performance.
Take Claws for example and especially Survivors Remorse how on earth can you place those shows in a category other than dramedy. I have no idea what Survivors Remorse is and I don’t even think the writers do its so all over the place it could never compete successfully in comedy or drama it has no identity other than dramedy.
