    Are your predictons fixed for quite some time and unchangeable or do you like to change them till the end? This time I’ve made more last minute changes than ever.
    I swapped today:
    Annie Murphy for Alex Borstein
    Tony Shalhoub for Dan Levy
    Laura Linney for Jennifer Aniston
    Mark Ruffalo for Jeremy Irons
    John Oliver for Trevor Noah

    What are your last minute changes?

    It’s Comedy or Cabbage –> Happy Ending
    Happy Ending –> Whenever You’re Ready
    Laura Linney –> Zendaya
    Helena Bonham Carter –> Sarah Snook

    Daily Show -> Last Week Tonight
    Jason Bateman -> Jeremy Strong
    It’s Comedy or Cabbage -> miakhalifa.mov

    I have too many wildcard picks, and Gold Derby’s odds have been true most times. I’m still keeping:
    Zendaya
    Yvonne Orji
    Yayah Abdul-Mateen II
    Paul Mescal
    Mahershala Ali

    I have a feeling I’m going to regret predicting upsets in S. Actress and S. Actor in a Drama Series when the only time I can remember in recent memory that GD has gotten both wrong is in 2018.

    I’m thinking about making these moves. Convince me:

    Borstein ––> Murphy

    Comedy or Cabbage ––> Happy Ending

    Cox ––> Strong

    Crudup ––> Culkin

    Irons ––> Jackman

    Youssef -> Levy

    HBC -> Snook

    Maisel -> SC in Comedy Directing. I’ve decided to abandon my instincts on this one, can’t trust the Academy to award quality.

    I’m sticking with Linney for Drama Actress, but I know I’m going to regret it. I had Anniston for the longest time, but now I have Linney 1st and Zendaya 2nd.

    I’ve got Culkin, Strong and Happy Ending. I think what tips me in predicting Strong and Culkin is their campaigning and how just like Comer last year and like Dowd in 2017 they seem to be being positioned as “the Succession Lead Actor” or the “Succession Supporting Actor” (as deserving as Cox and Macfadyen are also of the award).

    Happy Ending I have because although I think Maisel is second, the fact it did well at the creative arts whilst losing Editing to Insecure after the Schitt’s vote split is making me think it’s not strong enough to overcome a vote split of its own in Directing. Schitt’s won Casting so I have it in directing but I think it ironically also can’t overcome vote splitting in Writing so I have Whenever You’re Ready there instead.

    I was mulling putting Murphy in but I’m keeping Borstein for now because considering the amount of Maisel repeats at the creative arts and the fact that it more or less performed exactly the same as it did last year minus the acting losses to Rudolph and E. Murphy makes me think she could be the sole Maisel winner tonight. Despite Murphy being the most deserving of the Schitt’s cast I think she is the least likely to win and I have Yvonne Orji ahead of her. I may be kicking myself this evening but that’s my gut instinct.

    Probably going to regret some of these changes. I’ll be happy if a few of them are wrong, though. 🙂

    Comedy directing: The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel –> Schitt’s Creek

    Comedy writing: Schitt’s Creek –> The Good Place

    Drama S. Actress: Snook –> Bonham-Carter

    Drama S. Actor: Crudup –> Esposito

    Movie/Limited Actor: Mescal –> Jackman

    I’ve got Culkin, Strong and Happy Ending.

    Thanks, wolfali! I think Culkin is compelling and I’ll probably switch.

    The only pause I have with Strong is that, yes, like Comer he’s the discovery of the series, but Cox gives the bigger, louder performance à la Comer. Strong feels akin to Sandra Oh last year, ironically, in that they both give more subtle, internally tortured, and nuanced turns. That didn’t pan out for Oh, so I’m not sure it will for Strong, either. I’m still mulling the switch, but I also hate to drop Cox after having him since the beginning.

    I think Maisel losing DGA this year with three episodes speaks to the risk in Directing tonight. Switching to Happy Ending, but I’m so uneasy about it.
