I so want O.T. to win. Like, really badly. But I really don’t trust Whitford to not steal crucial votes from him. He’s beloved and was one of the few THT actors to get in last year. I’m going with MKW for now.

My heart is saying O-T, because they just watched the season, as showed by nods, and if they watched they did see his masterful acting and how he’s a big part of the season. And if they really watched the season, i think Bradley’s nod was just a namecheck, and now that they have to choose, it will be O-T.
But, my head is in the logical choice, MKW has a lot going for him, has already won a “percursor”, is in a show that exploded, his tape episode is stronger than the O-T one, and some say he’s overdue for a win.
In other words, it’s just a mess.

Into the water, into the truth, in your reflection, he lives in you.Let’s talk about writing for a second. Peter Morgan is prob winning, but Yahlin Chang deserves. I think “Home” is a better episode than “War,” plus Yahlin should have been submitted and nominated before, for “Liars.”
I would give the win to Rebecca Sonnenshine for ‘What i Know’ from The Boys, but since she has zero chances, I’m fine with ‘War’, but i would love a ‘Sundown’ win, Misha deserves.

I’ve subscribed to The Crown sweep as well for now. I think it has build up enough good will to pull a Schitt’s Creek.

Does that include Menzies? Because he’s the one person I feel won’t get swept up in love. He missed last year when he had better material, for Steve Carell in a divisive performance, and he only really had two episodes of substance this season, even that being only a few minutes in each episode.

I just feel like he is weak weak, and not Eugene Levy weak, but weaker that not even a full sweep would push him over the line.

I may be totally bananas but I’ve officially gone with my NGNG prediction of Lithgow winning supporting actor.
There is just something about Michael K. Williams’ assumed frontrunner status that makes me feel uncomfortable. Don’t get me wrong I will be pumped if he wins (although O-T Fagbenle is my personal choice) because he’s been robbed for so many projects in the past and his performance was one of the parts of Lovecraft Country I actually liked but I just feel like he’s a very weak frontrunner. A bit like Helena Bonham Carter last year. Lovecraft Country did well in nominations but as Riley pointed out there does seem to be a general sense of apathy towards it. In spite of a strong nominations tally below the line and a decent performance in some of these acting categories, it still had quite a few significant misses like in directing and editing. When you have been “seen”, you’re HBO’s main priority and you’re competing in a weak field it’s easy to get nominations. But you need passion to win and I’m just not sure Lovecraft or Williams have that much passion. The show feels like it came out eons ago and when it was cancelled it wasn’t as if there was a loud outcry like there was with something like Zoey’s Extraordinary’s Playlist. We all know about and agree that Williams is overdue for recognition but can one assume his fellow peers know this? Just like Helena Bonham Carter last year, it’s not as if his lack of overall recognition is so widely known about like Jon Hamm’s or Michelle Williams’ (or even Sandra Oh and Angela Lansbury’s). I feel like the only thing keeping him afloat is that he won at Critics Choice and considering how the SAG nominated Billy Crudup and SAG winning John Lithgow are the only performers to have won this Critics Choice category and then its Emmy equivalent, I’m sceptical.
Tobias Menzies could benefit from voters having caught up on his stronger work the preceding season and the goodwill from that but after James Cromwell lost with similar circumstances, I’m not ready to bet on that. If Charles Dance wins the guest actor category then I will be tempted to switch to Menzies because they seem to be in similar circumstances (snubbed for strong nomination worthy material last season, nominated in a weaker field for reduced material this season when <i>The Crown</i> is the series frontrunner) and it might suggest The Crown overall is strong enough for Menzies to coattail and that he may also have enough goodwill to pull of a win in a weak category. If Vance wins the guest actor Emmy, I will in turn be tempted to predict Williams because it would throw the Lovecraft apathy argument out of the window. I still maintain that Giancarlo Esposito’s Mandalorian performance is too small and doesn’t attract enough passion for him to win and I think The Handmaid’s Tale actors will vote-split (Bradley Whitford managed to get in our own awards over O-T Fagbenle even as we singled out Madeleine Brewer and actors love him so I’m not going to underestimate the possibility that both him and Fagbenle will vote-split).
To cut a long story short I have Lithgow winning purely because I feel like in a field like this that lacks a frontrunner (or at least a strong one), voters tend to default to a performer they are familiar with. This can either be a beloved name (Uzo Aduba, Regina King) or an incumbent winner (Alex Borstein, Ron Cephas Jones, Julia Garner). John Lithgow has won six acting Emmys and this is the second time he has gotten in for a one season performance (after his sweeping turn in The Crown) even as we’ve seen other one supporting performances in shows that were bigger contenders than Perry Mason fail to this under this voting system (e.g. Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Tom Pelphrey, Andrew Scott). Just like Lovecraft Country, Perry Mason has attracted a fair share of apathy but my NGNG prediction of Lithgow winning is more due to his own strength and status as a beloved veteran than Perry Mason‘s own awards position.

I have not seen “Home” yet (this Sunday!) but I have to say as a Crown fan who is rooting for it to win series, I feel underwhelmed by “War”? Just like with Morgan’s writing submission for season 2 even though “Beryl”, “Marionettes” and “Vergangenheit” were right there. Morgan’s overdue anyway and there are plenty of other episodes this season that I find absolutely win worthy so I’m going to pretend he’s winning for “Fairytale” or “Fagan” instead lmao.Solidarity with the striking writers. Yup, agreed. I will give it credit for wrapping up all the storylines, but I much more preferred other eps in the season. Meanwhile, I love “Home” so much because, as you will see, it’s all about a refugee’s trauma, guilt, rage, etc. It goes to places most shows probably wouldn’t.
There are some parts on “War”, that i truly dislike, but it’s not beause of the script, it’s more some acting scenes that are way over the top.
I actually think the dialogue between Phillip and Diana makes the whole episode so I’m okay with it, it’s not my favorite (i think I would rank it at #4), but still pretty good overall.He lives in you, he lives in me, he watches over everything we see.
