    Who said anything about visuals?

That argument is so tired and already discussed to length anyway.

    Who said anything about visuals?

You mean who used the actual word? No one.

But I know you’re not that literal surely.

Schitt’s direction was just incredibly basic (what made the show was the writing and performances, never the direction so your last point is void because there are plenty of instances of great television that isn’t driven by direction) and added nothing of substance to any bit or piece of the show. It’s just a garbage directing winner due to the sheer average/basicness of it all, nothing to do with visuals.

As mentioned, call me when you guys are done.

Lol, The Crown is not pulling a “Schitt’s Creek” this year… I doubt that ever happens again, or anytime soon.

The Crown probably has Series, Actress and Supporting Actress in the bag… and then maybe either Writing or Directing (but not both).

Lead Actor has stiff competition from the likes of Billy Porter and Sterling K Brown, plus it doesn’t help that Charles is an unlikable character.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Charles Dance and Tobias Menzies are both snubbed (as they were last year).

I love living in a world where Schitt’s Creek did go 7/7 and now all its haters can do is complain about which wins it didn’t deserve, which amounts to nothing except giving me a constant reminder that it swept. Keep it up, guys, I sometimes forget how glorious that night was!

You mean who used the actual word? No one. But I know you’re not that literal surely.

I’m just exhausted at this supposition that those who disagree with a directing win are somewhat superficial in their appreciation of direction by “zoning in on visuals” and somehow don’t understand the craft’s nuances. Although it wasn’t my personal choice, I thought the nominated finale of Modern Family would have been a deserving winner in this category even though the show itself probably had the lowest production values of all the nominees.

Those who may disagree with Schitt’s Creek‘s win aren’t trying to place a detriment on the show or its finale’s quality. I personally thought it was a deserving writing winner even though it wasn’t my personal choice that year (a show I also wouldn’t have nominated in directing in spite of it having “flashier visuals” than Schitt’s). A show can still be a well crafted piece of television without it having the best direction.

Anyway it’s 2021 and this is a drama thread for this year’s Emmys so I’ll end my input into this conversation.

Why are we talking about Schitt’s Creek again? In the drama thread?💀

Wolfali, you seem to be acting like this was a personal attack on you when my statement was also in agreement with your assessment that “Fairytale” is a better directed episode of The Crown.

I’m just exhausted at this supposition that those who disagree with a directing win

As stated, I also disagreed with the win so this doesn’t work.

A show can still be a well crafted piece of television without it having the best direction.

    Who said otherwise?

I wasn’t saying directly that was what you were doing but more referring to a general point 🙂

Anyway, Liz Garbus deserves to win directing IMO. It obvs won’t happen, but damn, she came in and did THAT.

I’m intrigued! I liked What Happened, Miss Simone quite a bit (has Garbus directed anything fictional before?)
