Honestly, I prefer SNL actors in the regular acting categories because at the end of the day it is still acting. Whether it is done in the form of a sketch or not, it is still acting. Not to mention Variety performer used to be home to all sorts of performances that weren’t just acting (like wasn’t Whitney Houston nominated for a Grammy performance?) so it would be even more weird to have actual acting mixed together with musical performances and hosts. Though, I will say the academy’s obsession with SNL is annoying at times.

I will say though, much of this trend has increased since comedy seasons got shorter. Frustration with SNL aside, their supporting actors have way more material than most acting nominees. Even Yang as a featured player had like 30 episodes.

Anyway I hope the trend is broken this year so we can get Queen Hannah her repeat win regardless.

I’m worried about Atlanta. I didn’t realize the show had only 58k votes on IMDB. It’s not that popular.

The Academy could just move on from the show and go for new stuff.

I think it just depends on the quality of the season. It strikes me as something that is more respected than loved like FargoFargo season 3 made it in because it had strong critical passion. Fargo season 4 didn’t because no one cared about it by the time voting came around.

It perhaps doesn’t help it that it was probably third behind Maisel and Barry when it was last eligible (in spite of season 2 being the most acclaimed season of a comedy ever) and now it’s been off the air for three Emmy seasons but we’ll just have to wait and see.

My worry about Atlanta is the delay, is not a show many are expecting to come back, not the people, not the industry, it’s just not there, i barely hear anyone talk about it.

Succession likewise, only has 66k IMDB votes, but we for sure hear a lot about it, and we heard and heard over their 2 year break.

I think the show will follow the Shadows route, be VERY acclaimed and fight for a nod, i don’t know if the guilds are paying much attention to it anymore either.

    It's all about Ethan Hawke!
