Peacock and Girls5Eva was a sponsor of Variety’s Hitmakers gala today. I love how they’re still dedicated to at least try and get the industry to be invested in the show

    Oscars FYC:

"Lamb" – International Feature and all categories

"Summer of Soul" – Picture, Film Editing and Documentary Feature

“The Green Knight” – in all categories

And it was also moderated by SAG favourite Marc Maron…

How is he a SAG favorite with 1 individual nomination?

    Random question.

Is it still possible under current rules for an animated series to be nominated in comedy? (aka Family Guy a while back?)

As long as they don’t submit in animated, yes.

If they don’t submit to the main Animated Programme category and go for Comedy instead.

Family Guy submitted in Comedy from 08-12 after a decade of never winning animated, with only one successful bid (2009 – S7).

Animated can submitted in the Comedy Writing categories though, this was implemented in 2012 after an open letter from 52 animation writers letters to academy to express distain allowing Community to submit in the same episode in Comedy Writing and Animated Programme for two years in a row (2011 and 2012, for the claymation Christmas special and 8-bit arcade game episode).

Thanks (I’m not sure it’s necessarily relevant this year, I was just curious).

So HBO is going to have 5 incumbent series nominees in contention. Wow.

Comedy is going to go from one of the most average years ever to one of the most stacked ever.

It goes without saying that Jean is in. Unless The Flight Attendant and Maisel flop both Cuoco and Brosnahan do feel solid. The former’s show still did really well in nominations last year and would probably have won actress and directing if Hacks wasn’t a contender and the latter is a previous winner in a show that has previously won comedy series and is an actors branch favourite.

Things do feel a bit blurry after those three though. I have Gomez in fourth because she ultimately will have the most visibility of almost any contender in this category this year.

Russian Doll remains a complete mystery until we see how it is received. It does feel like there’s been some hype for it whilst it’s been off air but with how the season ended and with the cast and crew saying this season is going to be almost a completely different show from the first… it could go any direction. I will predict Lyonne though until we know anything more because her star has only risen since season 1 was released and because she still got into such a stacked lineup last time round.

Fanning and Rae’s chances will both probably be defined by how well they perform at the winter awards but at the same time I can see them both miss there and still get in at the Emmys if Maslany and Lyonne both flop and because they both seem to have a lot of goodwill for their work on their shows which is something we’ve seen work in performers’ favours in these fields (hell it’s partly, if not the main reason for Rae’s last two nominations in this category).

    FYC:

"The Good Fight" and "The Other Two" in all categories.

It would be kind of funny if she ends up usurping Jean as the frontrunner with more recency lmao when that’s essentially what Jean did with her last season.

Finished The Great S2. If either Hoult or Fanning get snubbed, we should cancel the entire awards show (and Bromilow deserves to be in the conversation).

Have a great day if you see this!
