February 15, 2022 at 11:30 am #1204803723Obviously I still have it in my predictions but are we sure The Flight Attendant is still going to make eligibility? It didn’t have a TCA panel today and I just wonder are HBO really going to have 5 potential comedy series contenders and then also throw it into the mix?

I’d probably be predicting this if it weren’t for his main threat being… Nicholas Hoult, I guess? I do have Anderson ahead of him, though.
I’m going to wait for reviews, but I also have a hunch that Natasha Lyonne will be more vulnerable than assumed and could end up missing, it feels like Russian Doll premiered literal ages ago. Exactly how enthusiastic the reception will be is going to be decisive, imo.
February 15, 2022 at 1:48 pm #1204803901I’m very curious as to how much of a comedy Julia is actually going to be and whether it’s just one of those drama series that is “slightly lighter” so therefore has to be placed in comedy by HBO.
February 15, 2022 at 1:51 pm #1204803904Was Hacks mentioned along with other HBO shows at TCA. I can’t help but be skeptical about it making eligibility primarily because of so much HBO content already confirmed to air.

No. But it’s getting a PaleyFest panel in April which probably suggest it’s making eligibility.
February 15, 2022 at 1:59 pm #1204803916Hmph. I’m a fan of Hacks but there’s so many other shows I’d like to see be ahead of it.

I think I can understand it going to comedy but yeah it sounds like it’s more a light drama.
I love Lancashire but maybe it’s simply considered more doable. US audiences don’t have the same relationship to her.

I’m very curious as to what the comedy placement suggests on HBO’s part. Casey Bloys has repeatedly been hyping Lancashire up as a contender to win and the TCA panel and where the show is scheduled (airing from March 31 to May 5) would suggest quite a bit of confidence in it Emmy wise. But surely Jean Smart is much more difficult for anyone to overcome than Zendaya no? And why is HBO running 4 actresses in comedy? Does Julia competing in comedy as opposed to drama suggest HBO are hoping to get Carrie Coon in as their 2nd drama actress contender?
It’s very peculiar indeed. Maybe the show just really is a comedy and I’m overthinking the placement haha.
February 15, 2022 at 4:14 pm #1204804121First look images of Julia from TCA:
Lol, I didn’t know this was about Julia Child. Quintessential baity material for Lancashire, if it doesn’t go the Run/Made For Love route. I think she could even give Jean Smart a competition.
