~Currently watching Abbott ElementaryFebruary 23, 2022 at 7:51 am #1204814421And I don’t feel comfortable predicting only two acting noms for The Morning Show so I’m adding Julianna Margulies in the expense of Fiona Shaw. I think Killing Eve will end up underperforming (I’ll wait before deciding what to do with the show in other categories).
February 23, 2022 at 7:55 am #1204814431It’s not something I’m close to predicting right now (although I do have it getting four acting nods + series) but I think Winning Time has potential to bring in a When They See Us type of acting nominations haul. Ultimately the actors branch are the biggest broad church in the television academy. You have the younger and more progressive type of voters who voted for Zendaya and Jharrel Jerome and you have the the more conservative veterans who helped Olivia Colman grab the drama actress win last year.
With Winning Time being about basketball, from Adam McKay and with such a well respected cast on HBO, I can imagine there being a lot of wide appeal there.

Where do people think Shaw was in previous years? My inclination was that she was never higher than 5th in a 6 person field, and maybe at best 6th in an 8 person field?
February 23, 2022 at 8:08 am #1204814442It think she was probably 4th when it came to the nomination in both supporting actress fields she made it into. I mean in last season’s field Killing Eve was probably 4th or 5th in the drama series race and aside from HBC, Garner and Snook each of the other people who were nominated alongside her were either in weaker series contenders or in shows that weren’t even remotely close to getting drama series nominations at all.
I don’t think Killing Eve is going to be in the top 5 in drama series this year so I’ve moved her down from 4th to 7th in my predictions. If the show ends up being a non-factor when it comes to a series nomination I’ll probably drop her but I think it’s really worth keeping in mind that those three Killing Eve ladies have only become more respected as time has passed. I think there’s a chance that even as the show misses a series nomination all three of them still get in because of that passion for them amongst their peers and because they’ll have visibility close to voting (a bit like Newton and Wright with Westworld).
February 23, 2022 at 8:09 am #1204814447Meh, I’m still gonna predict Sandra and Jodie regardless of how bad this season ends up being. I think they like the show enough that they’ll manage to make it in for the final season.
This is probably the end of Sandra’s winning chances though which sucks.

You all seriously need to stop doubting Zendaya

February 23, 2022 at 8:59 am #1204814526Susan Kelechi Watson now has her Emmy tape with this week’s episode of This is Us: “Our Little Island Girl: Part 2”
While I don’t think the show will bounce back with a tremendous amount of noms, I do think there will be some final season love and it might come in the form of a nomination for Susan, who I feel has come close previously.
Assuming the Emmys nominate the 3 returning nominees from 2 years ago (Julia Garner, Fiona Shaw, Sarah Snook), that leaves 5 open slots for new nominees. She could be one of them (finally).
