Toni Collette is great in The Staircase but she is not winning Lead Actress for a supporting role. I think even HBO knows she’s not winning and only moved her there to not jeopardize Coolidge’s chances in the supporting race.

I think Paramount+ is more likely to show up than Peacock

Fingers crossed for a nom!

I doubt they moved Collette to improve Coolidge’s chances. I think Collette was moved to Lead more so because of (a) her name recognition (b) allowing other members of the female cast to be campaigned in supporting. By pushing Collette to Lead, HBO has the opportunity to maximise the nominations for the Series by getting both a Lead Actress and Supporting Actress nomination.

I agree. Tina Fey missing a Guest Actress nomination for a Peacock series last year is enough proof that enough Academy Members just don’t watch it.

That TV show is a masterpiece if the director of that TV show won’t get an Oscar nom for directing this year 😭
May 24, 2022 at 6:45 am #1204962044Is WeCrashed worth watching? I like Hathaway and wanted to check out her performance with the strong word of mouth she’s been receiving but let’s just say I’m not a very big fan of Leto’s acting style.
Dare I say I found it to be better than The Dropout as the competing shows on startup culture? It really exceeded my expectations.

That’s interesting, thanks for sharing your thoughts! Do you mind if I ask what your feelings were about The Dropout I guess just to see where/if our sentiments align? Personally whilst I thought the show featured some great acting (and in particular a nearly uniformly strong ensemble) I found the show’s approach to its central characters’ misdeeds and examination of that Silicon Valley culture to be underwhelming and surface level to say the least.
