Underestimate Andie MacDowell at your own peril. Everyone is watching Maid, her performance is well liked, she’s campaigning and she’s arguably got a comeback narrative.

Anika Noni Rose > Andie McDowell

Now we just need the 67M other viewers and thousands of voters to agree.

If Maid gets all 3 of Rose, McDowell and Robinson in at a precursor, that will be a sign of real strength for the show. Conversely,if it gets only Qualley in or the show misses either of DGA, PGA or WGA, that’ll be concerning. At present, with the great viewership (and also since I love the show),I think it’ll get Qualley, McDowell and Robinson in addition to Producer’s, Director’s and Writer’s Guild Nominations.

I just started Maid (only on Ep 3) and I really love it so far. Hoping to finish it first before I can fully discuss performances etc but Margaret Qualley is definitely awards worthy here, her performance is so authentic and affecting.

My favourite performance of the 2022 Emmy Season so far.

I just hope that Noni Rose and McDowell don’t split votes come nomination time for the winter awards.  We want both to be nominated and hopefully this doesn’t turn out  where two contenders cancel each other out and none get nominated.

Won’t be an issue at the Emmys with the unlimited ballot.

Agreed! If MacDowell can get in for Soderbergh’s indie film, she can also get in for Netflix’ hit series at GG.

Kaitlyn Dever is killing it so much.

She really is. I might already prefer her performance to those of the two Maid ladies. The show itself is actually quite good too.

I have been sceptical about Scenes From a Marriage‘s chances because of its lack of buzz but Oscar Isaac seems to have some interesting buzz and people seem to really want him to win (and understandably so) so I’m starting to re-evaluate.

I wonder if this might be a Fosse/Verdon situation where the show tanks in audience popularity and has average reviews but it has two strong critically acclaimed performances at the centre of the show from two film actors that brings a lot of industry passion and visibility towards it.

Fosse/Verdon made more noise than Scenes From a Marriage though and was about industry peeps. At the Emmys, it was also helped by the fact that it aired during the spring. SFAM, on the other hand, came and went and is possibly going to be overshadowed by all the shows that air henceforward and even some that aired before it (see: The White Lotus). I could be wrong though. I am very interested to see how this lands — it really could go either way.
