With how Yellowjackets has been performing at these guilds on the drama side in spite of being a ratings and critical hit, I couldn’t be less confident in The First Lady.
FYC:
"The Good Fight", "The Other Two" and "Station Eleven" in all categories, Sarah Lancashire ("Julia"), William Jackson Harper ("Love Life") and Luke Kirby ("The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel")

I agree that Showtime sucks but The First Lady at least has a well-known cast, also political shows usually do good at the Emmys. If something like The First Lady bombs at the Emmys, then Showtime is completely dead.
January 27, 2022 at 1:05 pm #1204754834The Showtime of it all its really concerning when they couldn’t get what should’ve been an easy nod for Hawke last season, BUT it’s difficult to ignore the baiting of it all and the pedigree of the cast and crew.
I think it could go either way.
FYC:
"Succession" and "Severance" in all Drama categories;
"Ted Lasso" and "The Great" in all Comedy categories;
"Station Eleven" and "The White Lotus" in all Limited categories + Ethan Hawke for "Moon Knight".January 27, 2022 at 1:14 pm #1204754863I’ll wait to see the quality of The First Lady to decide what to do with it. Showtime is already an obstacle so if the show isn’t even good, well…
I’m rooting for Pfeiffer though.
January 27, 2022 at 1:24 pm #1204754896Showtime is the equivalent of Blecker Street on the tv side nowadays 💀

January 27, 2022 at 9:14 pm #1204755829I hope The First Lady is received better by the industry than Mrs.America which really struggled.
January 28, 2022 at 6:32 pm #1204757363The way Hulu have too many actress contenders now lol. Lily James, Emma Thompson, Amanda Seyfried, the lead of Conversations with Friends…
I don’t envy their campaign strategist.

January 28, 2022 at 11:43 pm #1204757635wait so it would be considered a TV film rather than a film film? how is that delineated for streaming films?
January 29, 2022 at 12:27 am #1204757646AMPAS only had the straight-to-streaming rule for 2020 (and later 2021 when the virus reached its peak US in February 2021, prior to vaccines becoming available en masse).
As of right now, they have the theatrical requirement rule in places for 2022 features. Since Leo Grande is being described as “Hulu exclusive”, it is safe to assume it won’t be having a qualifying release for Oscar and will instead be Emmy eligible (similar to The Tale, Bad Education and a plethora of other festival acquisitions over the years).

I honestly wouldn’t be surprised with so mach backloaded content if a TV Movie or two end up very competitive here for limited actors. There’s only so much people can watch and movies take less time than limited series, especially when we’re at basically February without any real frontrunner.

A judge has ruled that Gaprindashvili’s argument is reasonable, noting that works of fiction were not immune from defamation if real people were slandered …
Netflix will face a $5m defamation lawsuit by a Georgian chess master who alleges she was defamed in the hit series The Queen’s Gambit, after a judge refused to toss the suit on Thursday.
Nona Gaprindashvili, the first woman to be named a chess grandmaster, sued the streaming company in federal court in September. Gaprindashvili alleges that a line from The Queen’s Gambit, where a character incorrectly states that she had “never faced men”, is “grossly sexist and belittling”. Gaprindashvili had played against 59 male competitors by 1968, the year the show is set.
Damages are sought for what the suit claims is a “devastating falsehood, undermining and degrading her accomplishments before an audience of many millions”.
Bill Hader and Barry in everything (2 babka)
The Great - Elle Fanning, Nicholas Hoult and comedy writing and directingSeverance in drama series, writing, Adam Scott for best actor, Ben Stiller for drama directing, and the whole cast in supporting.

Netflix would be thanking this didn’t happen a year ago

Funnily enough, she was reported to have sued Netflix on 17 September 2021, two days before the Emmys (but after voting closed lol). Nevertheless, Gaprindashvili’s legal action would not have come out of the blue for Netflix, and sexism was already a main criticism of the show.
