all I can say is wow. reading the first few pages now is HILARIOUS. the amount of Zendaya hatred, misinterpretation of the show and its message, and irrational anger at the show before it even aired made me smile knowing the show walked away with 3 Emmy Awards.

what’s even more interesting is how Zendaya managed to get into her Emmy category without even a nomination from any of the precursor awards. (and before the racist 40 year olds claim it was “political” please keep it to yourself because she gave the best performance of the year)

Looking ahead, I can really see the show being pushed by HBO for more nominations and hopeful wins for its next season. It will be competing in the Limited Series / TV Movie categories next year because they’re currently filming “bridge” episodes between the first 2 seasons. I definitely think Zendaya will repeat a nomination at least, and Hunter Schaefer and Jacob Elordi will be nominated for their phenomenal work. I’d love to see Barbie, Alexa, or Sydney get in but who knows.
When Season 2 finally does arrive, it will definitely receive more universal praise and awards/nominations if it stays at the same quality of the first season.
(Thankfully none of the Euphoria haters from 2018 have jobs so they were unable to vote in the Emmys. Anyways, stream Emmy winning song “All For Us” sung by Emmy winning singer Labrinth and Emmy winning actress Zendaya from the 3x Emmy winning cultural phenomenon TV series Euphoria.)

Not sure if there’s another thread for this but the first special episode will be premiering early on HBO Max!

Anyone have an idea of how these specials will compete at the Emmy’s? They’ve been definitively described as *not* season 2, which most likely won’t even air before the deadline anyway. Will they be considered hanging episodes of season 1? Will they be considered a miniseries? Normally I feel like they’d just be forgotten but considering Zendaya’s win I feel like people will be paying attention to them

They’re being marketed as “special episodes” so I’m guessing awards-wise they’d be considered TV movies.

    Oscars FYC:

"Lamb" – International Feature and all categories

"Summer of Soul" – Picture, Film Editing and Documentary Feature

“The Green Knight” – in all categories

But they’ll surely be under 75 minutes I assume, so would it jointly count as a 2 episode miniseries? We don’t even have an air date for the second one so I’m sure it won’t be consecutive nights

It’s confirmed to compete in the limited categories at SAG. Not sure about GG yet.

An abrupt change in tone and style from season one that was probably necessitated by shooting this in the midst of the pandemic, this special episode still felt very much a part of the overall arc of the series and necessary for the evolution of Rue’s story. I hope there is more clarity around the immediate aftermath of Rue’s overdose, but this bigger picture framing of the conversation with her sponsor brought to the forefront a lot that was merely touched upon or hinted at last season. Zendaya and Colman Domingo were outstanding. While the usual visual flair of the show was lacking in an episode that mostly took place at one location and centered on a conversation between two people, I thought Sam Levinson’s direction was really tight and lingered on those uncomfortable moments that took this episode to the next level. I’m really looking forward to seeing the narrative frame of the second special episode that looks to center on Jules, and any news about when season two heads back into production.

Whew, the way this episode delivered, I couldn’t take my eyes off for one second.
Excelente dialogues and writing, and marvelous performances by Zendaya, and the MVP Colman Domingo.
