Viola Davis To Star As Michelle Obama In ‘First Ladies’ Drama Series In Works At Showtime
Viola Davis is attached to play Michelle Obama in Showtime’s upcoming anthology drama First Ladies.
Written and created by author Aaron Cooley, the series “is set in the East Wing of the White House, where many of history’s most impactful and world-changing decisions have been hidden from view, made by America’s charismatic, complex and dynamic first ladies.” Each season will focus on a different group of women, with the first season revolving around the lives of former First Ladies Eleanor Roosevelt, Betty Ford, and Michelle Obama.
Davis will also executive produce the project, along with her husband Julius Tennon and their production company JuVee Productions. Showtime and Lionsgate TV will co-produce.
Thoughts? And potential casting suggestions for Roosevelt and Ford?

Go ahead and send Davis the Emmy, Golden Globe, SAG, etc.
ReplyCopy URLAugust 26, 2019 at 6:53 pm #1203041639Weren’t Robin Wright and Reese Witherspoon supposed to produce a series exactly like this, with the former directing? RIP to their’s I guess. Hopefully, I like this show because I can never get into Showtime shows for the life of me (but I did start watching Homeland recently and it’s the exception).

I read that as well but I suppose we will never see that 🙁

I honestly have no clue on who Cooley is or what he’s done, but Queen Viola is going to kill this role.August 26, 2019 at 7:25 pm #1203041780So it’s like 3 shows in one going back and forth between 3 timelines? I don’t understand how this is going to work.

August 26, 2019 at 8:03 pm #1203041985Pulp, you raise an excellent point. They’re from literally 3 different time eras. Will each hour focus solely on each first lady? In any case, i’m front row for Viola portraying Michelle Obama. I can’t wait to find out who will be tagged to play Eleanor Roosevelt and Betty Ford…..

*Sigh* we can’t have nice things. And I just saw that the article even mentioned their series too lol. Yeah, I have no idea who he is either, but I really can’t wait to see what she does with this role. It’s pretty different from what she’s done so far I’d say.

It could be like that new CBS All Access show Why Women Kill where three different time periods are involved and they go back and forth to each one in each episode but who knows lol.
ReplyCopy URLAugust 27, 2019 at 5:54 am #1203042488I guess I’m in the minority, but I just don’t see Viola Davis as Michelle Obama. She could surprise me though.
ReplyCopy URLAugust 27, 2019 at 6:53 am #1203042552Didn’t Gena Rowlands already give a tour de force performance as Betty Ford in “The Betty Ford Story?”
ReplyCopy URLAugust 27, 2019 at 8:17 am #1203042658Perfect casting! Keep the exquisite roles coming, Queen Vee!
ReplyCopy URLAugust 27, 2019 at 8:50 am #1203042715Olivia Colman would be an AMAZING Eleanor Roosevelt. Probs won’t happen though. Maybe Glenn Close for that role? As for Betty Ford, This is the perfect casting if they can get either of them: Helen Hunt, Sela Ward
