The incoming SMASH. Why we already using the word “miscast” after just a few photos?😭

    Viola has the riskiest role.

Can’t wait to see how she pulls it off

Whilst Davis does look RIDICULOUS, I am sick to death of people using the phrase miscast based on appearance. They’re actors, not lookalikes or impressionists. It’s the make-up department that have been exposed by these stills not Davis herself. One cannot possibly know if she has been correctly cast until the show has aired and we have seen her performance.

I appreciate them trying to make Viola look somewhat like Michelle but lol yikes.

Pfeiffer looks amazing as Betty though, whew.

I’m surprised the first look pics aren’t portrait but stills from the show

I am a HUGE Viola Davis stan, but I’m still really worried. Her role is going to be risky because it’ll be easier to judge and compare.

I totally agree with this sentiment.

Actors aren’t supposed to be life for liking imitation be carbon copies of the people they’re playing. They’re supposed to encompass their characters. There’s no point in looking exactly like a character if you can’t develop an emotional understanding of the character.

I remember people trashing early stills of Kristen Stewart with utterances of “miscast” and well we saw how those claims turned out to be further from reality than one can even imagine lmao.

Just to add on to this, Michelle Pfeiffer and Gillian Anderson look absolutely nothing like Betty Ford or Eleanor Rosevelt in these pictures. Nor do they need to. So essentially anyone saying they look great and Davis looks miscast is doing so solely on the amount of make up on their faces! Such comments are not even based on how much they look their real life counterparts. Because, let’s be honest, of the three here Davis quite clearly looks the most (albeit barely) like the real deal even with those ludicrous things above her eyes.

And she’s in a show with 2 seasoned actress. If she ends up having the worst performance her haters are going to have a field day

As a fellow stan, I can relate, though I am more curious about the script and overall structure of this show. I don’t think Viola herself is gonna mess up Michelle Obama.

Gillian Anderson doesn’t look exactly like Eleanor Roosevelt but she also looked completely unrecognisable to me for a second because her facial expressions in one of the stills they released was really unlike anything I think I’ve seen in her performances lol.

I can’t wait to see her and Cailee Spaeny act opposite each other!

The fumes, cause I said Viola looks miscast. It’s my opinion based on what we’ve seen. Whats the issue? And did I say that I hope she’ll change my mind with performance. But I just don’t think she’s the right person for the role. I always thought that even before the stills were released. Viola is a brilliant actress but I personally think there were better options for this specific role. But I’ll repeat myself by saying that I hope she changes my mind with the performance.

So who else thought Gillian looked like Vera Farmiga for a moment?

I will say that the « issue » with Viola is that she is one shade darker than Michelle lol
