Based on the bestselling novel by Taffy Brodesser-Akner, Fleishman Is in Trouble centers on recently divorced doctor Toby Fleishman, to be played by Eisenberg, who finds unexpected success in the app-driven dating world. But then his ex-wife Rachel goes missing, and the search for her forces him to face what went wrong in their marriage in the first place.
Danes will play Toby’s ex-wife Rachel, a successful talent agent, with Caplan costarring as Toby’s friend Libby, who serves as the story’s narrator. Brodesser-Akner will also write and executive-produce the adaptation, which was first announced back in 2019. (The series is officially an FX production, but will stream on Hulu.)

September 23, 2022 at 2:08 pm #1205096201I’m interested in what Danes will do in this. Something about her and Eisenberg just seems potentially appealing together. It feels very Squid and the Whale-esqe.

ReplyCopy URLOctober 4, 2022 at 10:49 am #1205106873I’m also looking forward to this, probably just because I generally enjoy FX’s projects and I’ve heard great things about the novel. Also really interesting that the novel’s author seems to be both showrunner and the main writer for the show, which I feel like is pretty unusual. It doesn’t seem like she’s worked on TV at all before, which I think could go either way, but journalists have certainly been able to make the jump before (David Simon). Really curious to see how this turns out.

Into the water, into the truth, in your reflection, he lives in you.November 22, 2022 at 2:07 pm #1205164294I’m loving it so far, actors are great and it’s reminding me a bit of Big Little Lies, a mix of mystery with a commentary on upper class society. Really intrigued to figure out what happened to Claire Danes’s character.
ReplyCopy URLNovember 22, 2022 at 3:47 pm #1205164399I really loved the first two episodes as well. The writing is strong and Eisenberg is terrific. Need more of Danes though, which I’m sure we’ll get, as her character seems really meaty.
The daughter is insufferable though lol. She’s written as such a cliched teenage girl, and not in a good way.
ReplyCopy URLNovember 22, 2022 at 5:08 pm #1205164501I was actually happy when kids were sent to camp . I hope they stay there. The daughter was horrid and didn’t help that she wasn’t very good actress.
I assume that Lizzie will get more to do. Since she was basically missing from episode two.
ReplyCopy URLJanuary 4, 2023 at 12:04 am #1205220154I still can’t forget Episode 6, “This is My Enjoyment”, the way it drastically shift from Toby to Libby and why it feels so natural and how Lizzy Caplan dominates the episode from then on, such an incredible nuanced performance, terrific writing and the direction was also amazing. Easily their peak.

Into the water, into the truth, in your reflection, he lives in you.March 28, 2023 at 8:23 pm #1205367572Four episodes in and this already one of my favourites. Can’t recall the last time a show demonstrated this level of nuance about self reflection and the mournfulness of our past lives and whom we thought we could.
Danes is also been phenomenal in these episodes so far and if this is what she’s like now, can’t wait for her much hyped centric episode 7.

Writing is amazing, better than most limited series out there…
