Premise: “The first crewed mission to the Moon during the Space Race in the late 1960s was a success for NASA and the United States. This drama poses the question: “What if the Space Race had never ended?” In an alternate timeline, a Soviet cosmonaut, Alexei Leonov, becomes the first human to land on the Moon. This outcome devastates morale at NASA, but also catalyzes an American effort to catch up. With the Soviet Union emphasizing diversity by including a woman in subsequent landings, the US is forced to match pace, training women and minorities who were largely excluded from the initial decades of US space exploration.”

Cast: Joel Kinnaman,  Michael Dorman, Sarah Jones, Shantel VanSanten, Jodi Balfour, and Wrenn Schmidt.

I was saying the other day, that if more people were exposed to this show it would be an easy awards contender. I’m glad there’s a thread about it now, and just in time for the last two episodes of s2 that, if reviews are to be believed, are supposed to be explosive and two amazing hours of television.

Joel Kinnaman ans Shantel VanSanten have the one scene in 2×03 that would be a perfect Emmy clip. My personal MVP of the season has been Michael Dorman. Sarah, Jodi, Sonya Walger and Krys Marshall have been excellent as well.

This has become one of my favorite shows at the moment. Truly underrated. Even with a certain plot point that left me speechless.
considering that Joel said that the real show doesn’t start till season 3. I can’t wait for last two episodes.
This should really be in conversation for best cast at Sag.

They already started filming Season 3.

Critics were not lying. That was a amazing season finale. It deserved a nomination in Writing.

For some reason this has never been on my radar despite the subject matter appealing to me. After hearing how good the finale was, I’m definitely going to catch up on it soon. Maybe it can challenge The Expanse for my favourite space show.

So yes, if there was any doubt…after the season finale this show just delivered it should be getting awards. It was 1h20min and it flew by, the craft was impecable and the emotional impact was at an all time high.

If and when this show eventually finds the critical acclaim it deserves (like The Americans, where the Emmys were four years late to take notice), I’ll just be mad that some performers won’t be there to be recognized. Won’t say who to avoid spoilers, but they knocked it out of the park, one of them in particular had a season arc that screams “Best supporting actor nominee”

Criminally underrated show. TMS may be traditional “prestige” emmy bait, but FAM really delivers with the drama, storytelling, and the visuals especially. Bittersweet finale, but I loved it.

Except for the Danny-Karen storyline. Wtf were they thinking when writing that? I’m fine with Karen and Ed having marriage troubles and her cheating, but not with her dead son’s childhood best friend. That’s too fucked up.

Yeah, that’s the one storyline that was completely unnecesary and the season would have been better by omitting it. All the rest was great, so I’ll give them a pass.

Apple tv+ should really get a Michael Dorman campaign rolling! I just found out he put on actual weight for the season and that’s the type of narrative voters love.

I’ve binged both seasons the last couple of days and I have to say how much I LOVED this. Should be bigger and should have been nominated across the board.

I know there’s always a slight eye roll when one show dominates an acting category, but this show could have genuinely filled 6 worthy slots in Supporting Actress:
    Shantel VanSanten
    Jodi Balfour
    Wrenn Schmidt
    Sonya Walger
    Sarah Jones
    Krys Marshall

Joel Kinnaman is also brilliant as is Michael Dornan and both would’ve been worthy nominees too.

I have NOT recovered from Dorman and Jones’ scenes in the finale. They should’ve both been nominated. I hope the show continues to grow and improve – a sharper script would be very welcome. Wrenn Schmidt is honestly my favourite in cast – she has been entirely committed to her character since the very first episode.

Michael Dorman should have been nominated for sure and as far as I’m concerned, if he had been nominated, he would have been the deserving winner.

For All Mankind was way better in Season 2 and I’m excited for Season 3 even though I’m pretty mixed on Joel Kinnaman on the show. Sometimes his acting doesn’t ring true to me. Love Sonya Walger too in addition to Dorman.

Honestly I didn’t really see a massive leap in quality between season 1 and 2 as some described. It remained at a pretty consistent (good) level throughout for me.

That’s fair. I found Season 1 to be very plodding and meandering and the episodes felt like an eternity. I thought Season 2 had more focus and the plot moved along at a much better pace.
