Figured I’d start a thread for these? These are all from the last couple of issues of Variety Magazine.

Wait until Apple starts plugging its little show about workers’ rights.

May 27, 2022 at 3:25 am #1204965101Yess, I hope they take Arcane seriously and have actually seen it because the animation is just next-level and the story and the characters are so well crafted. Also Ella Purnell and Hailee Steinfeld better get nominated for their voice-acting.

Ambika ModMay 27, 2022 at 3:47 am #1204965109FX and Hulu have really stepped up their FYC ads this year! Those ads for Atlanta and The Girl From Plainville just cut straight to the point as for why you should watch them (the former’s genre bending format and the latter’s standout performances) and are just overall compelling. Sadly the same can’t be said for HBO who have just used the same useless opaque font for their quotes that are largely hidden behind the posters of their own shows and are thus easy to just skip over.
Netflix also seems to be doing a good job as usual, especially in highlighting how central Natasha Lyonne and Jason Bateman are to their shows without really necessarily giving a long list of their duties in front of and behind the camera. Ditto Apple. Sadly Amazon’s seem to be disappointing here. Their ads look like someone in their marketing team has just used the basic version of Canva, copied and pasted the posters for The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and A Very British Scandal and then just used one random quote to tell you why you should nominate them for series. They don’t highlight why the performances are nomination worthy other than Rachel Brosnahan, Claire Foy and Paul Bettany are in it which yes could be enough for certain voters to invest energy into them but also just makes it look to certain eyes like their just seeing a header image from a fancy trade’s online print. The latter highlighting the show’s BAFTA presence is good because even though voters don’t pay attention to the TV awards, the brand still obviously holds a certain type of prestige due to its prominence on the film awards circuit. But then again who is going to see a show has won a sound award and say “I must watch this now”? Highlighting that the show got 4 BAFTA nominations and 1 win or its other awards nominations and wins no matter how minor they may be (like Peacock have done with We Are Lady Parts) would have been a stronger choice.

Quite honestly, Arcane is of such high quality and is such a breakout, it should be nominated. If they can’t get that through, they really are straight-up box ticking in that category.

After the Emmys snubbed Invincible, I wouldn’t be shocked if Arcane gets the same treatment

Such a crime. Invincible was incredible but I could see it maybe being too violent for some people? Arcane is also violent but not nearly as much as Invincible.
Arcane already cleaned up at the Annies winning 9 awards, all it was nominated for. And unexpectedly people seem to have heard of it, I brought it up to a random work colleague and he said it had been recommended to him before.
