Who is excited for this one?

Roberts reuniting with Sam Esmail after their incredible work in Homecoming. I think it will be brilliant.

I just saw today that Sean Penn has reportedly refused to return to the set of the show unless every cast and crew member get vaccinated. I’m curious: what’s everyone’s thoughts on that? Should a person be allowed to serve an ultimatum like that to their colleagues and effectively demand everybody receive a vaccination that they (presumably at this point) do not want?

I’m very pro-vax and in *theory* I agree but I do wonder about the practicality of enforcement for a show that’s already in production (as opposed to a streamer or network simply refusing to employ someone who is not vaxxed).

Yes, it’s an unprecedented ultimatum to serve; demanding every person you work with receive a vaccination otherwise you refuse to show up. I don’t think he should be able to enforce that.

If individuals decide they don’t want it, their livelihood shouldn’t be called in to question by someone with a different point of view. And one would assume that since Penn is voicing this publicly, he must be working with people who aren’t yet vaccinated. Surely, he should be the one to go if he feels uncomfortable.

Until it’s legislated, he’s arguing off of his own principle and his coworkers shouldn’t have to be forced into something they wouldn’t have willingly done.

P.s I’m not anti-vax or anything but I do believe we all should be encouraged to come to our own decision about it until it’s mandatory/if it ever does.

I think they should have gotten all vacinated people (SIDENOTE: get vaccinated guys its not bad I assure you I had no side effects and got j and j) (I am very pro vaccination) but if he doesnt feel safe just replace him.

Julia Roberts is currently in Australia filming her new comedy with George Clooney…that begs the question: has filming concluded on the Gaslit limited series??? So little is known about it.

I’m excited to see this one. I’m ashamed to admit I had never watched a project of Julia Roberts’ until Homecoming and she is honestly phenomenal in that series. Totally understand what people mean when they say she just has a movie star charisma and energy. Her acting is superb in it and it’s a criminally underrated gem of a show. Safe to say I’ve watched countless movies with her in them now.

Don’t quote me on it but at a certain point I believe Gaslit was also being filmed in Australia. It’s possible Roberts isn’t in all of it, I guess?

Premieres tonight. Metacritic score of 73 with 20 reviews. Uniformly positive ink for Julia Roberts, but mixed on the series as a whole. Says it’s overstuffed, takes on too much of the Watergate backstories, and is tonally inconsistent throughout. Also strong notices for Dan Stevens and Betty Gilpin in supporting roles.

Julia Roberts is still owed for Homecoming. Starz better come to play with their campaign.

A great start to a compelling story that a lot of people are already familiar with while also giving a new perspective that also a lot of us may not have heard of. The cast is great and I’m giving a shoutout to Sean Penn for his transformative role. It also looks like they are setting up for Julia Roberts to have juicier material in later episodes. It’s also nice to see Dan Stevens and Betty Gilpin as well. I enjoyed the first episode and I’m looking forward to see the next ones.

Wild premiere. Tonally all over the place, and far more flippant that I was expecting from a Watergate drama. Lots of exposition, or what maybe the first fifteen minutes of a movie might be stretched out into. So much Acting with a Capital A! Sean Penn was really going for it, or his garish prosthetics were really going for it. Welcome back, Julia Roberts! I can already tell that Martha Mitchell will be one of her major performances. Whether or not the Emmys notice remains to be seen, but I know if this had been HBO’s big contender this year, it would be game over for these hoes. There’s shades of some of her past work like “Charlie Wilson’s War” that might be held against her, but other than that, she was amazing. Dan Stevens and Betty Gilpin were practically in their own romantic comedy where the backdrop just happened to be the beginnings of a landmark presidential scandal, and I dig that for the both of them. I can’t fully or accurately describe what Shea Whigham was doing as G. Gordon Liddy. So OTT, and probably 100% accurate. SMDH. Next episode is all about the break-in and subsequent fallout. Can’t wait!

Julia Roberts is so so good in the first episode ! Had the show been on HBO or Netflix, it would have been over for the other girls…

    Episode Title: “California”

Synopsis: Martha and John rekindle their love and their power-couple working relationship at a campaign event in California, overshadowed by G. Gordon Liddy and his team bungling the break-in at the Watergate.

    Discuss.
