I can’t believe it. It was literally the best Netflix show, and one of the few that are actually good. Netflix is prioritizing viewership over quality as always

This one hurts. They had already finished filming one episode

    Wow, that’s gotta sting.

This is probably the most pathetic TV Show cancellation I have ever seen. IT WAS ALREADY GOING TO END!

This decision isn’t about viewership, it’s pandemic-related production issues.

It can be worse. Empire couldn’t shoot its literal series finale because of the pandemic and now it ended an episode short of having an ending.

Shameful. They ended on a cliffhanger in season 3, and now no resolution will be provided.

Just posted this on the Comedy predictions thread but I find it hypocritical that Netflix would state that they can’t renew it because of Covid shortly after they announced a renewal of also stunt heavy but male led Cobra Kai.

It makes sense when you take into account the fact that Cobra Kai is a much bigger show than GLOW. Its YouTube numbers were enormous – the first episodes of seasons one and two are almost at 200 million combined viewers. Everything about the show’s performance since it landed at Netflix has been very positive, as it’s still the #12 show in the world after being the most viewed show on the platform in September.

COVID protocol will make all TV shows more expensive, but Netflix will obviously be more willing to bite the bullet on something like Cobra Kai due to return on investment. Whereas GLOW had a more niche audience, which made the reality that they couldn’t have gotten a new season shot/produced until 2022 at the earliest (per Deadline’s cancellation article) a major death blow.

GLOW has a premise predicated on a lot of close physical contact between its large cast. It does a lot of location shooting while not being a big award player or viewership/subscription driver. What’s the payoff for Netflix producing, promoting, and releasing a more expensive final season that will have reduced viewing due to a 3-year hiatus?

Shameful. They ended on a cliffhanger in season 3, and now no resolution will be provided.

Wasn’t GLOW a bubble show all three times it got renewed? Or at least the last couple? I remember there was a big campaign in the trades to get a fourth season.

My point is that if you’re not a huge commercial hit and released on a platform with a well-documented penchant for cancelling shows after 2-3 seasons, it’s your own fault for getting caught on a cliffhanger. There’s no reason the third season finale couldn’t have had enough closure just in case they didn’t come back while keeping some narrative avenues open just in case they continued.

Do you think Netflix would cancel something like The Witcher now that they are filming Season 2? No, in fact they already started pre production for Season 3, and the budget of this show is way higher than GLOW. It’s obviously about viewership and if you can’t see it, then that’s on you.

They could have given it a final season to wrap things up. This is so brutal.

Not a “bubble show,” for starters. It’s perfectly reasonable for fans to want closure from a show that did not intend for its season 3 finale to be its series finale narratively.

We’ll never get a chance to see Betty Gilpin get nominated (or possibly win) again for the role.

Remember the days when Netflix used to be the service that would swoop in and save shows that were cancelled by other networks? Now it’s the other way round lol.

This really hurts to add Betty Gilpin to the list of people to never win the Emmy that they richly deserved.
