Starts streaming July 8, 2021, on HBO Max. Full trailer is out, and it’s fantastic. The Frank Ocean song takes it to the next level. Also, Kristen Bell returns as the titular narrator.
Nine years ago, the original Gossip Girl website shut down. But after a new generation of New York’s young elite takes control of private school Constance Billard, the notorious blogger remerges as the number one source into their scandalous lives. #GossipGirl

First reviews are out. Positive one from Variety:July 8, 2021 at 1:47 am #1204334059
Soooo, currently 56 on Metacritic with 16 reviews. The original’s season 1 scored 53 with 26 reviews, so it’s in good company, I guess. Let’s not forget that series lasted six seasons, and this is too high-profile for HBO Max not to eventually renew. The most consistent criticisms seem to be that the reboot isn’t salacious enough and doesn’t go deep enough into its camp roots that made the original such a cultural reset. It’s very mindful of existing in a post-covid 2021 landscape with all of those PC sensibilities intact, for better or worse. The ensemble not being lily-white is surely a plus, as well as sexuality being more fluid. We find out who the “Gossip Girl” is in the pilot, which is kinda crazy. My personal pet peeve of 26-30 year-olds playing teenagers is ever present here, as well as that HBO budget! We’re not in the CW anymore, folks lol. The palette is reminiscent of a “Succession”/”Industry” hybrid. Anyways, episodes will drop weekly, starting this Thursday, for a time and then break for later in the fall. The CW will air the pilot on Friday night, probably edited and with commercials. I’ll at least watch the pilot and report back, since I know it won’t be a thing on this lazy site. My curiosity is piqued, at least.July 8, 2021 at 1:49 am #1204334061

Pilot was kinda ok. I expected it to be bad. Its middle of the road, its good and bad equal parts. Plus hearing the famous GG voice is nostalgic. Will need to wait and see how the rest of the episodes pan out. The HBO $$ is showing though. Cast is mostly meh, some of the actors look way too old. It’s not like there aren’t any young actors available.July 11, 2021 at 5:57 am #1204338582
Awful pilot. I’ve seen all I need to see of the reboot. My apologies.July 11, 2021 at 1:26 pm #1204339081
So I just watched it and the cast has potential…..not sure if thats good or bad at the moment though since the writing was pretty bad.July 15, 2021 at 12:54 pm #1204348179
The second episode was worse than the first. The actors are terrible and the stories lack development. Everything is rushed. The only thing that interests me is the story of Max and Aki.July 15, 2021 at 1:09 pm #1204348193
I’m not a fan but see potential. Plus seeing Thomas Doherty undressed is worth price of admission. He is really the only interesting one of the cast.
biggest fail of casting was the two sisters, they are so boring specially the “poor” one is a awful.
Also story wise, what kind of sister kisses n starts dating sister bf.July 16, 2021 at 12:14 am #1204348718
The acting is almost not there at all.. Aki is the worst of the lot, although the 2 sisters are giving him a run for it. Plus she said doesn’t want to hurt her sister so is gonna leave but is fine with kissing and dating her ex just days after he broke up with said sister? Smh. Also Audry and Max just slept with each other? Random as hell to just put that in at the end of the episode.
I thought HBO hires better writers then this. Aubry is the only one still keeping my interest.August 25, 2021 at 5:42 pm #1204416221
Two episodes in and a couple thoughts
* The difference between a CW and HBO budget is astonishing.
* Give Kristen Bell an Emmy (I’m 100% serious, she excellent as always in this role)
* Max and Audrey literally Chuck and Blair all over again. Boring.
* The teachers being GG shouldn’t have been revealed in the first episode.
* Why didn’t everybody just block and report GG like Max did? It was a brand new account (literally made that day) with zero posts and no followers.
* “ever heard of shakespeare? succession? the bible?”
* Jesus, how unwatchable can Aki be? I get he’s supposed to be shy character, but the actor seems like he just doesn’t wanna be there
* Thomas Doherty is the only main Upper East Sider with more than 3 acting credits and it shows.August 25, 2021 at 6:39 pm #1204416305
Omg, there is a thread for this show. 💀 The first six episodes slayed me. This show is hilarious from head to toe.August 29, 2021 at 2:48 pm #1204423233
