Reservation Dogs is definitely getting in somewhere. It’s been obvious since very early on that the industry and critics love it.November 29, 2021 at 7:45 pm #1204613939
Yeah, Reservation Dogs is getting something between a Baskets/Better Things/Atlanta treatment.
Squid Game is a very bad win. By far the worst nominee from that category if you ask me.
It's about the chaotic editing in Moulin Rouge!November 29, 2021 at 7:56 pm #1204613986
Ethan Hawke is just the best. That transcendent performance deserved all the time he spent up there giving his speech. Happy Thuso finally got something too. I don’t know how to feel about the Squid Game win. On the one hand, it feels quite refreshing to see an anti-capitalist Korean series awarded, but Small Axe was the superior piece of work.
For Your Consideration:
Carrie Coon, ‘The Gilded Age’ (no I haven’t seen it, but we have no choice but to stan anyway)November 29, 2021 at 8:05 pm #1204614032
Then it makes sense why they have so random nominees. I thought of them as some sort of indicator or Precursor.
I don’t think five people on a jury is enough to be a precursor purely because it doesn’t give a realistic age/race/taste/gender mix.November 29, 2021 at 8:32 pm #1204614200
So excited for Thuso, incredibly deserved.
i really don’t want to get ahead of ourselves with Resevervation Dogs. It has a TON of critical support, but I can literally name ten shows eligible this year with a history of tons of critical support. And this is the check off system. Who’s missing writing if it gets in: The Great? WWDITS? PEN15? And those are just the fringe contendersNovember 29, 2021 at 8:38 pm #1204614249

Honestly it may be crazy but I can see a world where all four of them get into writing. This is the same writers branch that nominated both Russian Doll (x2) and Pen15 over the incumbent comedy writing and comedy series winner.
^I obviously don’t think the branch will nominate Reservation Dogs over Hacks lol because that’s insane but it wouldn’t surprise me if another contender that’s bigger overall misses out. In spite of the unlimited ballot the writers branch seem to be quite strategic with their choices a few times over the years.
"The Good Fight" and "The Other Two" in all categories.November 30, 2021 at 2:17 am #1204614746
2020: I May Destroy You, Watchmen
2019: Pen15, When They See Us
2018: Killing Eve
2016: Crazy Ex-Girlfriend
2015: Mr. Robot
Pen15 being the only one without a Primetime Emmy win…
(Ignoring the CW bias)
"Lamb" – International Feature and all categories
"Summer of Soul" – Picture, Film Editing and Documentary Feature
“The Green Knight” – in all categoriesNovember 30, 2021 at 2:56 am #1204614815
Squid Game winning is just painful.November 30, 2021 at 3:16 am #1204614852
Globes, CC, BAFTA and now this. Another place where Small Axe is robbed. Squid Game is a very good winner but still 😔November 30, 2021 at 3:36 am #1204614882
I adored Thuso Mbedu and Ethan Hawke’s performances, but was disappointed for Jennifer Coolidge who was at best third when she should have won.
Best Picture: The Power of the Dog
Lead Actress: Renate Reinsve (The Worst Person in the World)
Lead Actor: Simon Rex (Red Rocket)
Supporting Actress: Kirsten Dunst (The Power of the Dog)
Supporting Actor: Vincent Lindon (Titane)November 30, 2021 at 3:41 am #1204614890
They showed taste with the Thuso Mbedu win. I had her and Hawk in No. 1 and 2, so yay to that too (but I flopped everywhere else).November 30, 2021 at 4:28 am #1204614918
Extremely deserving win for Thuso, she was so robbed at Emmys. Glad they didn’t fall for the Coolidge nonsense.
Squid Game sweep is starting, as it should.November 30, 2021 at 4:43 am #1204614926

I use gets in somewhere to suggest some form of Emmy nom, even if it’s BTL, or somewhere at winter (CCA, perhaps). Doesn’t necessarily mean it’s getting in to series. Not now
