Creating a thread for this as I don’t think the BAFTA thread is suitable for discussing spoilers and quite a few members of the forum seem to watch this show on here but anyway FINALLY a teaser and a date!

I’m so excited to have the opportunity to watch this show week after week (which I didn’t have for either series 1 and 2)!

December 5, 2022 at 9:36 am #1205178921The first season is maybe one of my favorite single seasons of a drama series ever, and Sarah Lancashire gives what is maybe one of the best tv performances I’ve ever seen, so suffice to say I am very hyped for this (even if I did think season 2 was a slight step down)
ReplyCopy URLDecember 5, 2022 at 10:12 am #1205179002I think the only issue I had with series 2 was the storyline with Amelia Bullmore’s character being a manipulative abuser who was set out to destroy the lives of the married men she was having affairs with when they decided to not leave their families for them (although I did like the sub-plots that came out of it with Molesly from Downton Abbey’s character and Clare’s school friend). Other than that I liked it just as much as Series 1 and in some cases even more so. It felt impossible to come close to topping the series 1 finale considering tense it was but series 2’s was absolutely haunting even as it was less action packed. I still get shivers thinking of Catherine’s monologue at the end of the episode.

I agree, series 2 still had some EXCELLENT moments, my real only complaint was that there was just 1 too many subplots, and I completely agree that the manipulative mistress storyline was the weakest by far. If they had cut that and just kept the serial killer storyline as the main crime of the season along with all the more character driven stuff, it would be up there with season 1 easy.

Doesn’t look like it though it seems Derek Riddell, Vincent Franklin, Susan Lynch and Rick Warden are all back as Richard, Andy, Alison and Mike.

January 1, 2023 at 11:06 pm #1205218108Happy Valley is incomparable. Catherine Cawood is one of the all time great TV characters while Sarah Lancashire just nails it every single time.
The writing remains top notch too. One minute, I’m gripped by the tension. The next, I’m howling with laughter over some windy yoga session. Outstanding start to the new series.

I can’t believe how tense a phone call at a coffee shop could be. Sally Wainwright’s pen remains unmatched.

January 8, 2023 at 6:16 pm #1205227581Wasn’t quite sold on this season yet after the premiere, but this second episode had some fantastic stuff. I feel like this show always gets better the less of a focus there is on whatever the crime of the season is lol. Sarah Lancashire you’re a legend.
