I think HBO released this today just for me because they knew I finished bingeing the Americans.
That said, I’m going to watch this but this honestly looks a parody for an HBO prestige drama. This, the Outsider, and the Undoing all looked ridiculously incredibly generic, I’m ready for something new.

ReplyCopy URLApril 16, 2020 at 6:11 pm #12034311042x times Emmy winner Tatiana Maslany and Matthew Rhys sounds great.
ReplyCopy URLApril 16, 2020 at 6:16 pm #1203431107Maslany role seems baity on paper and she is second billed, she is coming “Maslany will play Sister Alice, the leader of the Radiant Assembly of God, preaching three sermons a day to a hungry congregation and a radio audience that spans the country. An entertainer, politician, God’s conduit to the City of Angels, Sister Alice wields great power when she speaks, and plans to use it in ways only she can know.”
ReplyCopy URLApril 16, 2020 at 6:39 pm #1203431142Looks impressive to me.
June is a tough date Emmys-wise, though.
ReplyCopy URLApril 20, 2020 at 1:15 am #1203436393I’ll give anything with Rhys in a go. Same applies to Maslany and Lithgow.
ReplyCopy URLApril 20, 2020 at 6:21 pm #1203438026The trailer for HBO's Perry Mason series with Matthew Rhys has me wondering if the books ever mentioned Mason having been a private eye before he became a defense lawyer, or if that's something wholly invented for this: https://t.co/QMuOftxsMD

April 20, 2020 at 6:39 pm #1203438056Not sure why but I was under the impression that the series would be an adaptation of one of the novels but based on that tweet I guess not.
I’ve never seen the original (not *that* old) so didn’t know he is typically portrayed as a lawyer not a PI.
ReplyCopy URLApril 20, 2020 at 7:34 pm #1203438165Oh what to say. I think calling it Perry Mason is a bad idea. If this had been a new series with new characters, it would have been just fine. But the trailer looks generic meh. It seems a lot like that Ben Affleck movie from what was it, a year ago, two years? It doesn’t feel fresh and different. It’s a UK actor doing a sort of serviceable American accent, 30s art direction and costumes, lots of “acting” (aka overwritten show).

He used to be their top director yet he haven’t done anything for them since the Boardwalk Empire finale in 2014.

I hope he’ll at least get a nomination, merely for being a legendJune 5, 2020 at 1:09 pm #1203517922Got all eight episodes and there is no review embargo noted. Unfortunately not going to watch because I am catching up on Emmy-eligible shows.

Is it still referred as a drama series?
