I absolutely loved this show! Like others said, Harry was the least interesting but the cast was fantastic.

The only thing I don’t like about this show was how « fantasy » it was. Like, the popular straight guy rugby player hang out with the gay kid of the school and nobody said I thing about it… not even his friends or other members of the team… yeah not really reaslistic. Even his mom should have a doubt about it when his son was suddenly best friend with a gay boy. And Nick was a little bit too cute with Harry for a guy who doesn’t understand his feelings. In my opinion.

But other than that, it was fantastic. I hope there’ll be another season.

Since when did realism become a barometer of how good/bad a show/film is.

Especially a show like this rooted in feel-good vibes.

It felt too Disney-ish. More like a fiction than something that happens in real life.

And I didn’t say it was bad at all lol

If you want to see more of Olivia Colman playing a mom to a gay child, you should really check out Beautiful People. It’s a lovely, great British comedy from years and years ago and has honestly one of my favourite performances of hers. She’s also actually in the main cast here so is there throughout the show with lots of great moments. I watched it a few years ago now and it held up so well. I still rewatch clips of the show every now and then. Highly recommended if you can find a way to watch it.

P.S. Fun fact: one of the leading kids here is currently in the West End cast for Everybody’s Talking About Jamie playing the lead role. And for reality TV fans, the man who inspired this show is on the judging panel for Amy Poehler & Nick Offerman’s Making It.

I feel like all episodes could be hiss tape. He has a lot of material going thru the struggles of discovering himself. I will say that episode 4 or the finale should be his tape

I hope Netflix wisely (and I think they will) submit this to the Daytime Emmy Awards.

This could/should easily sweep up noms/wins:

    Young Adult Series

Lead Actor Performance in a Daytime Series: Joe Locke, Kit Connor

Lead Actress Performance in a Daytime Series: Yasmin Finney

Supporting Actor in a Daytime Series: William Gao

Supporting Actress in a Daytime Series: Olivia Colman, Corinna Brown

This is very cute! Five episodes in, I think it’s a great example of how fantastic directing can save so-so writing. The dialogue isn’t unforgivable, but there are a lot of times where it’s obvious the writer is going more for cute Tumblr screenshot-worthy quotes instead of things that a real teenager would say. But that being said, I’m still finding myself engrossed because of how well-paced and patient the direction is. I was on the edge of my SEAT during that first kiss scene. Kit Connor is an absolute delight, a very natural actor and perfectly expressive. I hope this is the beginning of a long career for him. I’m less impressed with the rest of the cast, and Joe Locke is missing the mark in my eyes, but no one is truly embarrassing themselves. The show knows exactly what it is, which is both its strength and its weakness. On one hand, it’s not trying to do or be anything it’s not (one of Love Victor’s primary problems), but on the other hand, I do kind of wish it dared to dig a bit deeper or be a bit more complex. I don’t mean to say it should be darker or edgier, it just gets boring watching something where the characters are specifically designed for tweens online to call them their favorite “cute nice boys who can do nothing wrong.” But it’s still very sweet, and I’ll definitely be finishing!

FYC: Pamela Adlon (Better Things) Rose Byrne (Physical) Danielle Deadwyler (Station Eleven) Elle Fanning (The Great) Luke Kirby (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel) Hamish Linklater (Midnight Mass) Margaret Qualley (Maid) Renee Rapp (The Sex Lives of College Girls) Sophie Thatcher (Yellowjackets) Heléne Yorke (The Other Two)

Okay I’m not one to have shows linger on me, but…

Watched this last night and cried. Woke up this morning and cried. Cried throughout the day every time I thought of it, or saw clips online.

This is a show I needed in high school. This show reminded me so much of my experience, discovering myself, first boyfriend in grade 12, everything.

This show was so beautiful, touching, and will stay with me for a long long time.

Kit Connor’s undeniably the breakout, he’s gained ~2 million followers on Instagram in a little over a week and is 8 on IMDB’s Star Meter. Second highest cast member is Joe Locke at 81.

Watched this and absolutely adored it. Since there’s been a lot of praise for Kit Connor — and understandably so — I’m gonna shout out Joe Locke, who, I think, captured and displayed Charlie’s emotions perfectly. I hope we get a season 2!

    I hope we get a season 2!

With Netflix’s reputation to cancel things right and left and with the chaos they must be under currently due to the stock dip, I’m not entirely sure they’ll renew a series that didn’t place in top 5 in Netflix charts in its first week.
