The book purist readers, the brainless Daemon fanboys/stans and the idiotic people who want Aemond to be portrayed as a one dimensional psychopath are going to overreact and be a loud minority online.
Instead the rest of the general audience and casual viewers will love this finale.
ReplyCopy URLOctober 22, 2022 at 6:00 am #1205128655The quality is actually fantastic If you are going in with certain bias of how character and scenes need to be written despite everything pointing otherwise (aka the stan world), you will be disappointed.
I don’t have any bias whatsoever. I actually don’t mind book changes at all, as long as this changes are well explored and executed. My problem is with the writers. They already slipped in some episodes, but we’ll see.
Like I said, I’m going to wait for Sunday (if I control myself 😂) and make my mind.

Some book readers don’t seem to understand that these characters don’t even have a PoV in the book and the events happen through stories that were being told. I feel like if we were to have an Aemond PoV chapter, who is a teenage boy, this season finale is exactly how it would be.

October 23, 2022 at 7:01 pm #1205130516So anyway, that Storm’s End sequence was flawless.
The last scene felt a bit weird. I get they were trying to portray the switch that flips in Rhaenyra that makes her want to kill her brothers but the shot and sequence didn’t work for me.

ReplyCopy URLOctober 23, 2022 at 7:36 pm #1205130549This was entertaining, but really doesn’t touch early season GOT. All plot over character. Ten episodes and I really don’t think they bothered to have any interesting characterization or storyline that wasn’t directly related to the question of succession. It was well acted and produced, and I was thoroughly on the edge of my seat, but I wish blockbuster television could follow in the steps of its predecessor’s (earlier) seasons and give us some full bodied, dynamic characters worth investing in, not just green vs. black. I understand its the nature of the source material, but it felt like Wikipedia.
I suspect it gets series nom, directing, Paddy Olivia and maaaaybe Emma, Matt, or Milly (speaking of nothing characters, what the fuck happened to Daemon?). I don’t see it winning anything above the line as of now.

ReplyCopy URLOctober 23, 2022 at 8:00 pm #1205130557I’m trying to look at this as its own thing from GoT. Because the basic nature of the shows are so different. One is focused on a single main conflict and the drama and tensions come out of that conflict. One is a sprawling tapestry. I had some issues with GoT’s storytelling sometimes, even in the earlier seasons. But the characterization and character dynamics were always strong in the those early season. This show is lacking that characterization to push it past its flaws. There doesn’t seem to be enough material there to give this the weight and complexity it needs, and the writers seem scared to add much needed character nuance and secondary conflicts, probably because of book purists. Still, it was well made and well acted enough and had some great moments. So, I’ll keep watching. But it’s not that standout of a season to me.

ReplyCopy URLOctober 23, 2022 at 9:35 pm #1205130623Ok WOW! What a devastating episode. The last 10 minutes… I was on the edge of my seat. The best episode of the season with episode 8. Emma D’arcy was absolutely incredible in this one. I CANT WAIT for the season 2.
ReplyCopy URLOctober 24, 2022 at 12:09 am #1205130663What a strong episode for Emma. I hope they get nominated at all the awards , they truly deserve it!! I think they give my favourite performance in the show.
ReplyCopy URLOctober 24, 2022 at 5:12 am #1205130798as someone who’s never seen GOT, I liked HOTD, but I’m not in love with it. I quite liked the plot and the scope of it all, but the characters weren’t super interesting to me and I was not a fan of the pacing. I do think it’s a good show and I enjoyed watching it, but it’s not one of my favorites of the year or anything.
I think this season might just get Paddy and/or Smith? Cooke and Alcock are the MVPs imo but I think they could get forgotten unfortunately. I can definitely see BTL and directing nominations (and series is a lock) but I don’t buy it winning anything ATL and I also think it can miss writing.

I’ve watched all of GoT and I felt similar, although I would rate it relatively high in terms of the drama category currently (in terms of what has aired so far)
