I unfortunately know how it ends and idk I don’t really like committing to long shows when they don’t have satisfying endings 🙁 I’ve heard amazing things abt every other season tho!
ReplyCopy URLOctober 24, 2022 at 11:53 am #1205131207Directing, Music must be all but a lock. Series is also likely. I don’t think any actors will get in for this season though.
ReplyCopy URLOctober 24, 2022 at 2:07 pm #1205131364I don’t think its quite fair to compare the quality of the first season of HOTD to the entire Game of Thrones series.
HOTD, imo, is about as strong as the first SEASON of Game of Thrones, if not stronger.
ReplyCopy URLOctober 24, 2022 at 2:19 pm #1205131369Mostly fine season finale. The cliffhanger sets up season 2 beautifully. The dragons sequence was absolutely stirring. That’s how you’re supposed to film and stage night battle sequences! Too many writing blunders like late-series “GOT” and structural issues throughout the season for me to love outright, but I’ll gladly root for Milly Alcock, Olivia Cooke, and Paddy Considine at the Emmys next year. All of them delivered extremely well where it counted, especially Considine, who might have delivered career-defining work here. Also Ramin Djawadi, as always, though I’ll never get over the decision not to have new original main title theme music with this genius standing right there and losing out on a very easy Emmy nomination. Oh well. Onto S2 in 2 yrs. time!

“Outside of the U.S., HOTD surpassed GOT Season 8, making it the most viewed HBO title ever in Latin America, Europe, Southeast Asia, Hong Kong and Taiwan on an HBO streaming service.”

ReplyCopy URLOctober 24, 2022 at 4:54 pm #1205131442Okay, this was actually quite good. Some people are way overreacting. If Aemond’s arc is actually well handled, it could be a very interesting plot point (I’m still pissed at him and that old hag Vhagar though. Justice for Lucerys and Arrax!). I don’t think the episode was as sharp as some of the GoT finales but it was still very well made and that cliffhanger for season 2 was everything. Directing, score, cinematography, absolutely amazing. About the cast, Emma D’Arcy, Elliot Grihault, Matt Smih, Ewan Mitchell, all very good and deserve every praise, especially D’Arcy.
Regarding the Emmys, the show should be a shoo-in for series, directing, music, cinematography, editing, etc. I did have some issues with the writing, so I’m not sure if I would nominate it. It wouldn’t be among the worst nominees though. Considine, Cooke and D’Arcy better get their deserved noms (and possible wins) as well. Would be here for Alcock, Best and Smith too, but the other three were my personal mvps.
ReplyCopy URLOctober 25, 2022 at 5:04 am #1205131772Can we talk about how Eve Best ate her material up this season? Commanding screen presence. Depending on the competition, I’d support a nomination for her.

October 29, 2022 at 5:53 am #1205136050Not sure if they’ll make her the lead for it for season 2.
ReplyCopy URLOctober 29, 2022 at 3:16 pm #1205136540Still amazed with Emma D’arcy’s performance in the last episode. They have such an ethereal aura, the way they cry and laugh…it’s so good.
In fact, even with HOTD having more irregularities than the first season of GOT, I thought the prequel cast had stronger performances. Perhaps because it focused on one location most of the time and the more dramatic nature of this season, it gave the actors more opportunity to shine. I think the most deserve nomination would be Best Cast in a Drama Series.
