In The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, if episodes 4-6 of season 2 were packaged as a theatrical film instead of a series of episodes, would it have performed well at the box office? Also, considering the episodes were a technical and above-the-line darling at the Emmys, would they have fared similarly at the Oscars? Or would it have had a similar result to the Downton Abbey films?

Dude,  nobody gives a damn about this show after season 1 and there’s a damn good reason for that.

The Catskills episodes of Maisel are my favourite sequence of episodes so I can certainly see where you are coming from. Box office wouldn’t have been huge though simply due to movie attendance patterns, probably something similar in terms of Downton Abbey, couple of hundred million worldwide.  No idea on awards.

I don’t particularly remember the episodes you’re talking about, but in general I imagine it being a long time before a movie sequel to a TV series gets considered as a major awards contender (just look at how tough they are on sequels of actual movies). And even moreso a comedy like Maisel – to use the Downton Abbey example, that series is as prestige as they come and did well at the box office, and they still couldn’t even get a costume design or makeup and hairstyling nomination.

I love Maisel and loved that sequence of episodes but no, I don’t think it would have done well at the box office or been an Oscar awards player…

The biggest problem with it would be that whilst the quality is there throughout, episode 5 is the strongest by far and so you’d have a movie strongest in the middle which isn’t ideal. Daniel directed 4 and 6 and Amy directed 5 (when on form Amy has always been that bit better both on GG and Maisel imo)
