After all these years, the SAG Awards still don’t have a category for Best Limited/Movie Ensemble. Boo! If the category existed this year, which five casts do you think would be nominated next week?
ReplyJanuary 7, 2022 at 9:23 am #1204702793Station Eleven has hands down the best Ensemble of the year (even better than The White Lotus), but for many reasons I don’t think it would be nominated. 1) Late release; 2) The show is not for everyone
I think the nominees would be:

The White LotusEither Mare or The White Lotus would probably have taken it. Mare of Easttown seems to have more consistent support as a contender than The White Lotus if we’re going by how they both performed with the Globes and CC but The White Lotus is also a lot more ensemble driven as a show which is something we’ve seen SAG gravitate towards in the past even if the show isn’t necessarily the biggest Emmy/Oscar contender in its field (This is Us over The Americans, Maisel over Fleabag, Chicago 7 over Minari etc).

Part of me feels bad that this category didn’t exist in those years because the Mrs. America and When They See Us ensembles didn’t get a chance to collect their flowers. But at the same time part of me also wonders if they’d have even won with how well The Queen’s Gambit and Fosse/Verdon performed with the guilds…

January 7, 2022 at 10:40 pm #1204704222Nominees- Mare of easttown, the white lotus, Impeachment, Maid, dopesick.
It would likely be a contest between Mare of easttown and The white lotus. The interesting thing is that I know a few people who feel that voting for Kate is enough because she is the show (according to them) and hence would vote for others. So I think that Mare of easttown might not have won ensemble. My friend Katharine is a member of the television academy (actor’s branch) and she voted for Kate in Actress and The queen’s gambit in series because she said that Kate carried her series while Anya taylor joy was carried by her series.

This makes me laugh because I remember saying that Emmy voters would be thinking this and being shot down!

~Locks:
1. Mare of Easttown
2. Dopesick
3. The White Lotus
~Then Probably:
4. Impeachment
5. WandaVision~The Other contenders seem like they would miss…

6. Maid:
It’s a late breaking hit with good reviews…. but seems like the buzz has dissipated a bit?
7. It’s a Sin:
As brilliant and deserving as “It’s a Sin” is (and would be my winner), I think it just has less buzz than the others and wouldnt necessarily be at the top of the nominating committee’s watch lists which is a shame because the acting was pheneomenal
8. The Underground Railroad:
It never really took up speed in the zeigeist despite the critical acclaim
9. Halston~ really is a one man show for MCGregor

WandaVision and It’s a Sin are both ineligible for SAG.
