A real rollercoaster of a season where the highs are really highs and way better than Versace for example, and the lows are awful low, like Hollywood low.

I understand why the final two episodes of crime/mystery shows are not sent to critics, but why for historical/factual shows? Had Impeachment sent all episodes to critics, it would have helped with their Metacritic score and reviews.October 29, 2021 at 4:08 am #1204546598
They potentially weren’t done with post yet, the show finished filming days before it premiered.November 1, 2021 at 3:22 am #1204550693

“Not to Be Believed”:
Billy Eichner was just terrible lol. I have to say I’m enjoying Feldstein and Owen a lot more than I thought I would. They have excellent chemistry together, they bring a lot of realism to their performances and I thought the episode utilised them both well. Cobie Smulders and Annaleigh Ashford continue to be great scene-stealers.
The writing was better in this instalment but I guess my main problem with the show is that whilst there definitely doesn’t feel like there’s a lack of anything going on, the depiction of the events feels hollow. It’s too textbook. Which is a shame because the writing on OJ Simpson and Versace had the opposite effect and that’s what made them great.

The grand jury scenes were incredibly effective. That’s not something always shown in legal shows like this, so kudos to them. You could see how the jurors turned favor toward Monica and against Linda in gradual shifts, which I found fascinating. Beanie Feldstein was excellent here and finally felt like she fully embodied the character of Monica Lewinsky and the gravity of her sad plight. I’d forgotten about more of the lurid aspects of the story, like the cigar incident, for example. Horrible that Monica had to recount every sexual encounter in painstaking detail like that to the female agent. Loved Linda’s speech to the press, and any scene where her epic paranoia reached unjustified heights relative to her situation. Sarah Paulson is at her best in sequences like that. I wasn’t expecting a humanizing moment for Bill Clinton, but here it was. Incredibly self-serving speech to a scorned wife, yet alarmingly convincing. Hillary going to bat for him during the impeachment trial should be good, though we should have gotten to this point sooner. Loved seeing Paula Jones giving her redneck husband the boot! Yay Annaleigh Ashford! Oscar nominee Rachel Morrison did an excellent job directing this episode. Ready for the finale and aftermath!November 3, 2021 at 4:15 am #1204554611
Beanie Feldstein has another tape! That final scene with Monica was heartbreaking and difficult to watch. Kudos to Rachel Morrison for filming it to exude tension. Ashford was also fantastic in THAT scene. This is probably also that one rare time I liked Paulson. I think the show’s main issue is the weak writing- this episode in particular felt like it was dragging on a bit in places. It was still better than most of the earlier episodes but the script could have used some edits.November 3, 2021 at 8:14 am #1204554821
BEST EPISODE OF THE SEASON. A+ Directing contender for sure.November 3, 2021 at 8:37 am #1204554872
This was the best episode across the boardNovember 3, 2021 at 10:27 am #1204555014
A great episode and a perfect showcase for Beanie, Clive, and Analeigh. I agree, the writing needed edits cos we were all drowned with words and information before we even reached half of episode.November 6, 2021 at 2:11 pm #1204561556
I absolutely loved this episode. Feldstein, Ashford and, yes, Paulson were all terrific. This season has really grown on me, and I’m so glad that it’s having such a strong second half.November 7, 2021 at 10:37 am #1204563009
I’m catching up on the show this week and the second half of the season is so strong. Imo Beanie is getting nominated if they are watching it. She has really grown on me throughout the show and is nailing everything post the reveal.November 7, 2021 at 11:54 am #1204563143
I watched the premiere and it is absolutely not as bad as it’s made out to be? And I genuinely don’t understand the Paulson drags. She’s fucking great. So is Annaleigh. Outside of a couple of directing choices and some questionable writing here and there, I thought the episode worked largely well.
I guess my biggest complaint would be the ‘crime’ being covered this season lacks the stakes of the previous two seasons so at times the show seems slow. No wonder it’s supposed to be much much better when the affair comes out in the open. Really excited to see more.
