I miraculously got access to the first 3 episodes, and I truly enjoyed them. It is not a groundbreaking show. I don’t know what people expected and are expecting. It’s fun, compelling. Carell is awful, Aniston is not that great, she has the meaty material but I personally believe some other actress would have been much better. But there’s room for improvement. The whole cast is decent with Crudup as additional standout. But the MVP for me is Reese. I know, you might think it’s bias, but it’s not. She’s genuinely good. I’d say she’s borderline supporting, but I thoroughly enjoyed her in these 3 episodes. She’s more believable than Aniston, but as people have stated already, this is Aniston’s show.
Not sure if it’s capable of winning any Globes; the competition is tough, though Globes might want to give Apple a warm welcome so we’ll see.

I’m reading through this thread confused. The hype and then the panic at the reviews. What were people expecting from this show? It has a big name cast and it’s going to be entertaining – that’s enough for it to hit at the Globes. Its chances at the Emmys were small even before the reviews came out.

    For Your Consideration:

Carrie Coon, ‘The Gilded Age’ (no I haven’t seen it, but we have no choice but to stan anyway)

As I’ve said with The Politician, if this stays rotten on RT I’m taking it out of my Globe predictions. The problem with this kind of high-profile show is that quickly a consensus forms based on the first critics to publish (as then social media latches on) causing those that follow tend to scale down their reviews as none of them want to be the critic who liked the “bad” show and be judged for their taste. As such, I expect the downward trend to continue. Will keep it in my predictions for now though purely because I have 25/1 odds on it.

Jen Aniston is winning the Golden Globe over Olivia Colman that’s a sure thing. The HFPA will not resist giving her a 2nd trophy, especially when Colman already feels over rewarded. Clair Foy herself couldn’t repeat against Moss, when she had the biggest season of the series to back her up. The Crown will not grow in popularity any more. If anything Colman will not overcome the comparisons to Foy’s performance which was near the word perfect. It’s a sealed deal for Aniston, she has the name, the fame, the acclaim and the looks.

Did you really just compare Elisabeth Moss to Jennifer Aniston? And the fist season of The Handmaid’s Tale with The Morning Show? You need a reality check.

Aniston is not winning, people keep treating the Globes like they always go for the biggest star, this is why all of you were perplexed when Close beat Gaga.

Close beat Gaga because Gaga was already winning elsewhere…

Moss was coming off an Emmy win and The Handmaid’s Tale had an undeniable buzz. No one was even predicting Foy to repeat despite her stellar performance.

Believe what you want. With the buzz Gaga had last year there was no way she wasn’t getting on that stage so she would have beaten Close if not for the song nomination. Also, are you really going to say the Globes take film wins seriously when they literally just awarded Bohemian Rhapsody. You crazy.

ot because of her nothing performance.

Uhm, for mainstream audiences, Bohemian Rhapsody was the most beloved film nominated, so it doesn’t surprise me at all. It’s not like the category had a frontrunner anyway.

Okay then, well for the Actress category Gaga was quite clearly the in the most beloved movie for mainstream audiences. (Just to prove how illogical that argument is.)

A Star is Born was the clear frontrunner in that category. Why are you trying to change history?

It wasn’t a lock to win, that’s what I mean. It was all media buzz and hype. The movie did not deserve to win, anyway.
With Bohemian Rhapsody it’s also that it was about a beloved band that I’m sure most HFPA members loved. And the movie was even nominated at the Oscars. There was a lot of love for the movie in the industry.

Lol why are we now discussing why Bohemian Rhapsody won? I only brought it up to remind that the Globes do not have the great taste you claimed them to have in the movie categories.

Either way, this is all a waste of time because this is The Morning Show thread!

Nope, she beat it because of the performance and because they DO NOT always go for the star, they hate to be predictable. Aniston is not winning.
