I quite honestly don’t see Janney getting nominated. I will admit that the response to Bad Education has been much, much better than I expected, but if the last few years have told us anything, then that voters don’t care about TV movies. And it’s not like they’re all bad; we’ve had critical darlings in “The Tale” and “Deadwood: The Movie,” but both vastly underperformed, especially in the acting races. I will go as far to say that Dern would have probably been snubbed had that year been more competitive, regardless of how absolutely riveting she was in it. Not even Al freaking Pacino managed to sneak in for “Paterno” when there was undoubtedly room in his category. Voters will always go for their favorite limited series first before they touch TV movies. Hugh Jackman might just be able to sneak in on the weakness of his category, but Janney in supporting actress? I don’t think so. We have all the Mrs. America, Hollywood and I Know This Much is True gals, plus Smart and Collette. That’s already A LOT. I’d also say that if someone benefitted from vote-splitting, then that would easily be Collette, who can capitalize on the popularity of Unbelievable. Plus, she received a SAG nom for a rather unbaity supporting role!

Jesse Plemmons still managed to snatch a nod in a weak year.

For Black Mirror, which is incomparable to your standard TV movies IMO. It’s a cultural phenomenon (as bad as it’s become).

But yes, she’s definitely a possibility. After all, it’s Allison Janney, whose performance is said to be quite great in the movie.

I agree that Allison Janney won’t get in. She’s good with what she has to work with but her role isn’t nearly as complex or showy as Jackman’s. Plus she actually doesn’t have that much screentime. Mrs. America is only going to build in buzz and I think that Janney will be left out at its expense.

I’ve just watched 3 episodes of Mrs America and I have to wonder if the supporting actresses won’t vote split as soon as nomination phase. I honestly don’t know which ones I would consider a stand out so far. Either they somehow all make it or only 2 of them because there wasn’t a consensus third nominee outside Byrne and apparently Paulson.

Vote splitting isn’t really a thing in the nominations phase as the current system allows voters to tick off as many performances as they want on their ballot.

Is it the case in this category as well? I’m wondering because the 2% rule doesn’t apply so I know the rules are different.

Yeah the voting system is the same, the slots are just more concrete.

Well yes but then it makes it hard to get more than 6 nominees, unless they get the same exact amount of votes. That’s why I think it’s possible either voters check all the actresses off, or some (more than expected) will be surprisingly left out.

Does anyone think Cicely Tyson could be nominated in Supporting Actress for Cherish the Day? She was nominated in this category for a lesser known project before like Relative Stranger, which was a Hallmark Channel film.

I want Allison Janney to not only get in but win the damn category simply because I want her to win every actress award at the Emmys. So far she has all three drama awards, just one of the comedy awards, and none of the LS/Movie awards.

She should also book a guest spot on Mrs. Maisel as soon as possible.
