First look at Apple TV+’s new comedy series, Loot, starring Maya Rudolph, Michaela Jaé Rodriguez, Joel Kim Booster among others. Premieres June 24
Official Description (from The AV Club):
ReplyBillionaire Molly Novak (Rudolph) has a dream life, complete with private jets, a sprawling mansion, and a gigayacht—anything her heart desires. But when her husband of 20 years betrays her, she spirals publicly, becoming fuel for tabloid fodder. She’s reaching rock bottom when she learns, to her surprise, that she has a charity foundation run by the no-nonsense Sofia Salinas (Rodriguez), who pleads with Molly to stop generating bad press. With her devoted assistant Nicholas (Kim Booster) by her side, and with the help of Sofia and team—including mild-mannered accountant Arthur (Faxon) and her optimistic, pop-culture-loving cousin Howard (Funches)—Molly embarks on a journey of self-discovery. Giving back to others might be what she needs to get back to herself.

I’m actually pretty bullish on Q1 shows because they’re getting some space. The White Lotus may not have done quite as well as we thought but it’s held pretty well.

I tend to feel quite apprehensive when it comes to streaming services being able to achieve because I find unless they’re able to rally the support of critics they can often get lost in the shuffle (Schmigadoon had decent reviews and Physical in spite of having mixed reviews had strong notices for Rose Byrne and both ended up falling through) but hopefully the greater attention on Apple TV due to the CODA win can give this a boost.

I agree, but I think the late season push this year is especially nuts compared to other years. I think Q1 shows still need critical mass (which Apple do still struggle with at times) but they’re probably going to virtue from at least not having five shows debut the same week.
