Absolutely love her and she also proved to be a great actress in Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and Girls5eva. What do you think?

I really liked Tina in 30 Rock. I don’t know if it’s aged super well, but I enjoyed it greatly when it was airing.
That said, I will maintain the funniest thing she’s ever done is the narration to her Bossypants audiobook. I’ve not listened to it in years but I nearly had a car accident from laughing listening to it once.

I don’t know whether I’d say I loved Fey in it but I did quite enjoy her performance on the show. I like how she navigated the line between the naturalism of her character and the absurdity of the show.

January 8, 2022 at 7:16 am #1204704737A lot of things from 30 Rock aged horribly, Tina Fey’s performance isn’t one of them, she was really good.

January 8, 2022 at 7:31 am #1204704768Upon a recent rewatch of 30 ROCK, I do agree a lot of it doesn’t hold up. Even at the time it aired, I was more of an OFFICE fan and liked its energy.
Having said that, I found that I actually liked 30 ROCK a little more on this rewatch but that I actually struggle with some of the episodes in the first two seasons.
Tina Fey may not have been the peak of the show in terms of acting but I did like how she fit into that world and her chemistry with the core cast.

I just rewatchd the whole series – I don’t find it problematic, but I’m not American. Even the blackface episode where Tracy dresses like a woman and Jenna dresses like a black man isn’t as problematic in context as it’s made out to be 10 years later in a hyper sensitive America. I hate the word problematic and I can’t stand tearing down things that were cutting edge and celebrated progressivism at the time, but now basically calling them hate crimes because they might not have crystal balled contemporary expectations. 30 Rock has aged perfectly fine.

January 9, 2022 at 3:57 pm #1204708313I’m still in the “love” category. Actually doing a rewatch right now, and yes, while it hasn’t aged all that well, it’s still incredibly sharp and irreverent in a way I just absolutely adore

Well, even Tina, when she won the Globe in 2009, mentioned Gold Derby users who didn’t like her acting. Actually back then there were quite a few people that didn’t like Tina’s acting skills here on the forums.

I tend to think some of the “it hasn’t aged that well” is less the cause celebre you’re referencing, and more that jokes were often related to topics and culture of the era that don’t necessarily hit quite as well out of context, particularly with a next generation who wasn’t watching the first time around. I was much more conscious of this when I rewatched eps with my stepsister (who is fifteen years younger) than by myself.
This is kind of an SNL alum effect, I think because many of those performances err towards the topical for humor, but it’s also what makes shows fantastic whilst they’re on air. We will lose something if we only make shows on their basis of being a streaming service library item and not to address the issues of the day.
Back to Fey, though, all that aside, brilliant comedic timing, and delivers a line better than nearly anyone

I have the misfortune of occasionally stumbling onto tumblr and the kids have a certain level of venom for Tina Fey. Among the general histrionics, she’s considered a horrific racist, a bad TERFy, anti-WOC “white feminist” and just generally a whole problem who needs to be cancelled, or at least to learn her place and earn respect of 21 year olds in 2022. It was from that vantage point that I wrote my earlier post.
