Hey, I was thinking of trying to put together a list about who should’ve been nominated and won for each season of Mad Men, and since I’m working on it, I wanted to check about where a few of the performers were eligible for each year.
If I remember correctly, Kiernan Shipka was submitted in guest for 7B since she got in for Gold Derby’s Guest actress award that year. I was interested if they put her in supporting or guest for her other years.
I also wanted to know if January Jones ever went guest in the later seasons once her role became a more infrequent presence than it initially was.
Finally, I wanted to know if Jared Harris was submitted as a guest for season 3, if Mark Moses was submitted as a guest for season 2, if Harry Hamlin was submitted guest for season 7A, and if Jessica Paré went guest for both season 7A and 7B. I could imagine them going either there or supporting.
If anyone has answers regarding these placements, let me know.

For season 4 I think it should have won :
Drama Series
Drama Actor
Drama Supporting Actor (Harris)
Drama Guest Actress (Buono)
Drama Writing (The Suitcase)
Drama Directing (The Suitcase)I think it’s criminal Melinda Page Hamilton was never submitted by AMC. Especially considering Randee Heller was and was nominated.

June 19, 2020 at 6:43 pm #1203543135I find it pretty surprising that Jones went lead in season 4 rather than moving down to supporting like Moss did the previous year, especially since Moss probably had more to do in season 3 than Jones had to do in season 4.
I also really don’t like that they never submitted Page Hamilton. I remember they didn’t submit James Wolk for season 6, which was another terrible call on their part.
I will say, I actually love Heller’s nomination, as I found her to be absolutely hysterical, and wish we get to see more of her. Although, it’s hard to complain when they have her such a great send off.
I’m surprised you’d have given Harris the win for season four, as I’d have given Slattery the trophy that year (although Dinklage was also very deserving that time around).

Supporting Actor is a tough one for me. I loved Harris, Slattery, Dinklage, Cumming, Charles and Noth! However there is something about Harris that gives him the edge for me.
James Wolk was fine in my opinion. I didn’t mind him getting submitted or not either way. The really crazy thing for me is Page Hamilton, especially considering she could very easily have given the show its first acting win considering she had a whole arc.

I am inclined to agree about Lead Actress but :

Had season 7 had not been split in two I felt like she should’ve won for the strategy episode. Splitting season 7 into A and B ruined her chances of winning an Emmy imo

I thought this was Margulies’ make-up Emmy since people were expecting her to win in the first season of The Good Wife? It should have been Moss that year for the great “The Suitcase”. Same as with Hamm.

Jones should have dropped to supporting in the fourth season. I love her performance in “The Chrysanthemum and the Sword” and thought would be competitive in supporting. She should also have been nominated for the first and second season in Supporting. I mean, she had “Shoot” and “A Night to Remember” as tapes for those seasons and a winning performance on the third season. She’s my favorite character and Jones played her perfectly.

100% agree about Hamm but (apart from maybe in series 3) Margulies consistently gave one of the best (if not the best) lead performance on television in the last decade and deserved her Emmy wins.

Easy – swap Margulies’ win so she wins for season one in 2010 and give Moss the trophy for Mad Men S4 in 2011.

I think Margulies deserved to win for season 1, 2, 4, 5, 6 and 7 (maybe not 7 because Tatiana Maslany was overdue).
