I finally got Apple TV, and I found myself drawn to Mythic Quest, as I have been a fan of “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” for years.
No one is talking about the show, and I guess it’s because Apple TV hasn’t really hit the zeitgeist yet and the first couple episodes of this show are a little rough around the edges. It just feels like a standard sitcom in a relatively unique setting
I initially found the show relatively disappointing and inconsistent despite some great moments. But then episode five happened. And it’s wonderful. It’s bittersweet, moving and I loved it. Jake Johnson and Cristin Milioti deserve guest acting noms and the episode is worthy of a writing nomination.
From this point on, the show breathes new life and really begins to hold its own. The show went from a disappointment to a great watch in a matter of episodes. By the end of the season, I thoroughly enjoyed the show. And I can’t wait to see how Season 2 unfolds.

Great cast that worked together. I agree that it took them a couple of episode to start blending but once it got there, the show was perfect.

I’m making my way through the Apple Shows now. Just started the Morning Show.
I loved how the tone changes as the season progresses in Mythic Quest. It starts off as just silly workplace antics in the early episodes. But by the end, it becomes rather touching and poignant that blends rather well with the silly antics. Which reflects Rob McElhenney who starts the season as a somewhat one dimensional character but becomes a pretty great character by the end.
Also the game itself is really well done and is actually convincing as a game, millions would play.

ReplyCopy URLMay 10, 2020 at 4:38 pm #1203474964I heard about that, it’s really great attention to detail. I particularly loved the 90s game they made in episode five too. Just that whole episode in general really. I wish more people were talking about it.

ReplyCopy URLMay 22, 2020 at 10:15 pm #1203496452Never mind, just watched it straight away. Loved it, that was a wonderful episode, I also love how they addressed blood ocean and how it immediately didn’t age well because of quarantine. I have really grown to love this show. The gags were great, some wonderful character moments and that ending was just incredibly satisfying. Guaranteed to make anyone feel good.

ReplyCopy URLMay 23, 2020 at 6:21 pm #1203497636I felt exactly the same but I stuck with it and i’m sure glad I did. First seasons of comedies can always be a little rough but this grows confidently and from about the midway point onwards. I grew to love it.

It’s interesting they’ve gone all in on the quarantine special, and have made it their only directing submission, it could work, given how timely the episode obviously It is,
If this show gets any major nominations I’m gonna be thrilled. So glad they submitted Jake Johnson and Cristin Milioti too

“Everlight,” a standalone episode from season one of the gaming workplace comedy will launch Friday, April 16 on the streaming platform. Following the special “Mythic Quest: Quarantine” episode, the half-hour episode is directed and executive produced by Rob McElhenney and written by Ashly Burch. The episode will see the Mythic Quest crew return to offices and co-workers following the coronavirus pandemic for their annual Everlight party. Anthony Hopkins lends his voice to the episode.
Can’t wait for the new episodes and I hope more people catch up on this show
