Kidman’s performance grew on me in the fourth episode. She’s ok here (I guess I was just in a kind of wtf state after episode 1 lol).

I quite like McCarthy and Cannavale’s chemistry. They really ground their characters quite well.

    FYC:

"The Good Fight" and "The Other Two" in all categories.

Nicole Kidman keeps on proving her worth to the streaming networks especially for an actress in her 50’s. To have 4 hit shows in a row is a major achievement for any actor and she deserves credit for this despite how you may feel about her performance on this show or the mixed reviews.

Even Julia Roberts hasn’t been able to achieve what Kidman has done in this age of streaming, does anyone even remember Homecoming?

Agreed on all fronts. I don’t think the show is very good imo but people love Kidman. Good for her.

But man I felt bad for Julia Roberts in Homecoming. I LOVE that performance and show. It’s gorgeous.

McCarthy, Shannon and Hall are huge standouts for me in a great ensemble. The acting’s great, the show…meh. Asher Keddie is great too.

And Samara Weaving continues to impress me. She’s got some major, major, major talent.

he pans are IMO exaggerated, especially given that the Gosspi Girl reboot has a higher MC rating than this (what the entire fuck!!).

Pls that reboot just came on over here and that first episode was unwatchable. It was like one of those MTV dramas from the late 00s but with a HBO budget lmfao.

    Asher Keddie is great too.

There is no one in that show that would benefit more from a US nomination than Keddie to be honest. (I don’t think it’ll happen, though, she’s too understated comparatively). There are probably only a handful of English-speaking actors in the world who are as well known as she is in her own country and virtually unknown out of it.

Some of the dialogues don’t seem so natural to me, it feels unnecessarily forced at times..

Other than that, great acting from pretty much everyone there, even though I don’t see it becoming an awards player considering how crowded next year’s categories seem to be (probably some noms at the winter season awards, I guess)

This is unfortunately bad. The writing is terrible – on par with The Undoing. Thought I’d be able to rely on the cast to save it, but even they’re a mixed bag. Asher Keddie is the standout for me so far. McCarthy, Shannon, Jacinto and Van Patten are all very good too. Evans, Boone and Gregg are fine, but barely register with me. Hall and Weaving are straight up bad. Cannavale’s character is terribly written but he’s been trying his best to save it. And finally, Kidman is so frustrating in this. The accent is just terrible. It’s so inconsistent, and I know that’s something Kidman struggles with in most of her performances as of late, but it’s so obvious and distracting here. I wish they just scrapped the fact that she’s Russian because this is a role Kidman would normally eat up but it’s hard for me to enjoy it when I can’t get past the accent.

I’m still going to finish it because despite its poor quality, it is watchable. At this point though, it’s more of a “look how bad this is!” type watch instead of me actually enjoying it.

To be fair, Roberts has only had one tv outing. Her next one, Gaslit, has me very excited. Homecoming was/is fantastic. I have no idea why that show didn’t generate larger viewership. The title maybe? The performances, the cinematography, the editing, the score, the direction, the writing; nothing faltered with it, it was excellent. Even the second season is perfect as a continuation of the story without Roberts.

But yes, in terms of A list, Oscar winning, box office mega-stars taking over streaming; Kidman and Witherspoon are untouchable. They know exactly what the audience want and deliver fun, entertaining shows and give the performances their all.

I thought this was going to be a total mess, but I love it. Yeah there are messy elements, but I don’t think it deserves the slating it got. I’ve been pretty vocal about how much I didn’t enjoy the book, so I’m pretty surprised myself. McCarthy fantastic, Cannavale great. Tiffany Boone is such a talent. Luke Evans I think more could be done with (and think his occupation has changed from the book). Kidman is sorta the weak link.

I could do without all the arty shots of fruit though.

Keddie is probably more disproportionate than Suranne. Apparently the American investors didn’t want her cast because she’s so unknown and Kidman had to advocate for her.

This is the worst show I’ve seen since Hollywood. Just an absolute train wreck.

This show is simply terrible and ridiculous. I guess the writers were also high writing this.

Wtf was this week’s episode? I thought The Undoing was bad but this is on another level.
