Wicked season premiere! I didn’t expect this level of sharpness this late into a show’s run. The coffee guy, Richard Lewis, the gifts that are Susie Essman (she rocked that Lincoln hat, BTW lmao) and JB Smoove, Larry and Cheryl again (plz let this mean Cheryl Hines can make a run in the supporting actress field again with slots opening up this cycle), and the whole MAGA cap business. This is back in for Comedy Series and Larry David at the Emmys. Welcome back!

Great premiere. I remember last season’s start felt like it was trying a bit too hard, but started to get into the natural flow afterwards. This was a perfect start. I’m glad that it seems Cheryl will be playing a more active role this season after being underutilized in the last two seasons (I’m gonna guess season 8 was due to Hines leaving for Cougartown, correct me if I’m wrong). She plays a wonderful straight man on this series, and I think some people might take her for granted, but she’s always held her own against the more showy roles. Larry’s MAGA plan was hilarious, and felt like a new level of stupidity for him. It looks like this season is gonna have several different overarching plots, as it set up the Larry/Cheryl/Ted love triangle, Larry’s feud with Mocha Joe, and Larry being sued for sexual misconduct all in one episode, and none of them have been resolved. Wouldn’t be surprised if Susie’s pregnant friend pops up again either. Overall, I’m very happy to have this show back. Everything in this episode worked, and I hope that continues during this season’s future.

This felt more like classic Curb Your Enthusiasm than the previous season after the long hiatus. Would have liked to have seen much of the first few minutes cut, which would have happened in the pre-streaming era of more network oversight, but the storylines nicely came to converge and pay off organically (or as organically as anything can happen in this show). Hopefully with Barry and Veep out of the way, the reviews for Avenue 5 being what they are and Silicon Valley dead as a door nail, the HBO voting bloc can restore some of the Emmy nominations that this show missed out on last time.

This was not as sharp as the premiere, yet it was shorter and there was no shortage of storylines (most of which went unresolved), so maybe the caliber of the improvisation was the issue? Nice to see Megan Ferguson since The Comedians.

We got a new episode earlier. Great one after the lackluster second episode. Noticeably longer, 38 minutes.

Just noticed that the season 10 premiere tied with “The Doll” for highest ranked episode on IMDb.
