I wasn’t that sold on Martin compared to Short and Gomez but the recent episodes especially the season finale changed my mind. The physical comedy was on point!

I thought this show was good but was not as enthusiastic about it as a lot on here, but that finale was great.

Yeah, I feel exactly the same way. I’ve been watching every week and think its great, but not excellent. The finale capped the season off very nicely. I think my biggest issue with the show overall is its pacing, which felt slack at times in the middle of the run. Releasing all ten episodes at once would’ve smoothed over some of it, but I much prefer the weekly release schedule. Even so, I love the cast and production design and really appreciated the writing. It’ll earn a lot of well-deserved nominations.

Amy Ryan was unexpectedly and deliciously brilliant in the finale.

The finale was very very good. Even if the killer was predictable, the episode was greatly executed. I give the season an 8/10, honestly. It is a strong first season and it would be deserving of nominations in every category. I hope S2 is just as strong, if not more!

    Nominations predicted:
    Comedy Series
Martin Short – Lead Actor in a Comedy
Steve Martin – Lead Actor in a Comedy
Selena Gomez – Lead Actress in a Comedy
AMY RYAN – Supporting Actress in a Comedy
    Writing
    Directing
Possibly guest actor/actress nods Nathan Lane, Tina Fey, Sting, Jane Houdyshell, Jackie Hoffman, etc.

Amy Ryan was exceptional in that finale. I was waiting for her to serve and boy did she ever. It was Reminiscent of Juliane Nicholson blossoming in the finale of Mare of Eastown:

Steve Martin was overshadowed by Marty Short all season long, until the finale where Steve Martin was better than he’s been in decades.

Loooooved this show and the finale. The killer ended up being a bit predictable after the end of last weeks episode, but I didn’t mind because the execution was so well done. Plus it gave us that Amy Ryan performance! She better happen at the Emmy’s. Also, kudos to them for pulling off that twist at the end considering it was shown in the first episode before they even had a season two.

I thought Martin Short was better than Steve Martin all season, but Steve really saved his best for last. The physical comedy, whew. The elevator sequence was hilarious, but I died at his brave speech in the basement — only to then have them cut to him still sitting in the stroller blabbering lol. So good.

I can’t wait for season two and I hope everyone happens at the Emmy’s next year. I need noms for Short, Martin, Gomez, Ryan, Lane and the actor who plays Theo.

Vis a vis Short and Martin (I have to place them this way round otherwise it feels weird to say Martin and Short hehe), I liked both of their performances. I think I preferred Martin in the first half of the show and Short in the latter.

This was so enjoyable and well-made from start to finish and the finale did a great job in setting up a follow-up season that is guaranteed to be even bigger and better. Easily among the best discoveries of the year!

Keeping in mind there’s still tons of contenders to come out, as of now I think the show stands a reasonable chance to be nominated in all these categories next year:

    – Comedy Series
    – Lead Actor in a Comedy Series (x2)
    – Lead Actress in a Comedy Series
    – Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series
    – Guest Actor in a Comedy Series
    – Guest Actress in a Comedy Series (x2)
    – Writing for a Comedy Series
    – Directing for a Comedy Series
    – Casting for a Comedy Series
    – Original Main Title Theme Music
    – Single-Camera Picture Editing for a Comedy Series
    – Production Design for a Narrative Program (Half-Hour)
    – Sound Editing for a Comedy or Drama Series (Half-Hour) and Animation
    – Sound Mixing for a Comedy or Drama Series (Half-Hour) and Animation
    – Cinematography for a Single-Camera Series (Half-Hour)
    – Contemporary Costumes
    – Main Title Design
    – Music Composition for a Series (Original Dramatic Score)

This would be a total of 20 nominations, which would make it tie to Ted Lasso for the record of most-nominated freshman comedy series in history, and they’re all looking pretty realistic and deserved.

I just finished watching the finale (which I believe is one of the best finale of the year so far imo) and I will surely recommend this to my family and some of my friends.

Yes, although I personally would probably vote for Da’Vine Joy Randolph before the two of them.

In the same way despite both James Cavelry and Michael Cyril Creighton being excellent, I doubt anyone other than Nathan Lane will make it in Guest Actor.

Per IMDB Nathan Lane was in only 4 episodes, it felt like more than that though. I had figured he went over the eligibility of guest.
