He’s a co-creator so they won’t be leaving him out and he has writing credits on no other episode. They can obviously submit other episodes alongside the pilot but if there’s going to be a single submission, it’s this one. Most first season shows usually submit at least their pilot even if it is clearly not their strongest episode anyway (see Hacks and Ted Lasso). We just had 4 pilots nominated here this year for example.

Ah thank you! I’m new to this so Im just asking questions lol

The show got off to a really good start, settled down in the middle of the season, but shot way back up with “The Boy from 6B” and stayed there for the final three episodes, so ultimately this was a really good season. The tone was assured right from the beginning, and while that didn’t mean that this was a total laughfest as may have been insinuated from the fact that this is the “Steve Martin and Martin Short murder mystery comedy,” but made it something much more interesting. Hell, even the fact that the conclusion of the “whodunit” aspect of the story wasn’t that surprising means that ultimately what made this show work was the character development of the three leads, and the fact that this was accomplished among a sprawling ensemble of great actors and in a story that did have to rely on being plot-driven most of the time, I think that means this was a success in its own right. The chemistry between Martin, Short and Selena Gomez was exactly what I’d hoped it would be and they were all equals in supporting one another and helping each other stand out. Short definitely had the flashiest role, while Gomez had the most dramatic heft, but Martin acted as an anchor who didn’t realize his full potential until the finale. The rest of the ensemble was really good, and in hindsight it makes sense why Aaron Dominguez and Amy Ryan were the only other credited series regulars. There were still a lot of other stars (including A-list stars really jumping in for a quick gag) that contributed to the world, but never overwhelmed the driving force of the main trio solving this mystery. Dominguez had charisma, even if his character was ultimately a little pointless by the end of the season (although I suspect he may be more prominent in season two), while Ryan really got to chew scenery at the end, and her casting ultimately spoiled the mystery of the show (I can’t tell if I wish that had or had not been the case). Because of the two mysteries diverging by season’s end, I hope we don’t forget the excellence of “The Boy from 6B” and the contributions of Nathan Lane and especially James Caverly. That episode was the season highlight of this show and a high point for all television this year, to be honest. The plot certainly thickens for season two, but I’m down to see in which ways the chemistry between the main trio will only deepen and grow.

I feel like Hulu will release it at the end of the summer again, late August. They are starting filming sooner this time, almost a month earlier so they may finish earlier too, around March. I def don’t see them releasing it in like July

I’m JUST now binging and catching up to this series. I have loved it especially the previously praised “The Boy From 6B” episode. I think it’s so charming and lovely.

Regarding its awards chances, I worry that it would be able to break in above the line with such a (planned) competitive release season. Returning shows like Barry, Atlanta, Ted Lasso, What We Do in the Shadows, The Great, Insecure, Black-ish, etc. along with shows like Hacks, Russian Doll, & The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel possibly coming out.  I just struggle to see where it could break in and if so, what it would push out.

Only Murders in the Building has the most buzz out of every comedy that has dropped a season that’s eligible this Emmy cycle so far after Ted Lasso. I don’t think it will be a top tier to win but it would surprise me at this point if it misses series, actor and if it’s not in the top 8 in actress.

    FYC:
Picture: Passing, The Power of the Dog, Shiva Baby, Spencer
Director: Jane Campion, Rebecca Hall, Pablo Larrain
Actor: Benedict Cumberbatch, Andrew Garfield, Winston Duke/James McAvoy
Actress: Olivia Colman, Kristen Stewart, Tessa Thompson
    S. Actor: Richard E. Grant, Troy Kotsur, Kodi Smit-McPhee
    S. Actress : Kirsten Dunst/Martha Plimpton/Ruth Negga/Diana Rigg/Anya Taylor-Joy
    O. Screenplay: Bergman Island/Mass/Nine Days
    A. Screenplay: The Lost Daughter/Passing/The Power of the Dog/Shiva Baby

I think its’ best chances at nominations are:

    • Outstanding Comedy Series (shaky ground)
    • Outstanding Directing: “The Boy From 6B”
    • Outstanding Guest Actress: Tina Fey
    • Outstanding Casting
    • Outstanding Cinematography
    • Outstanding Contemporary Costumes
    • Outstanding Main Title Design
    • Outstanding Music Composition
    • Outstanding Original Main Title Theme Music
    • Outstanding Editing
    • Outstanding Contemporary Production Design
    • Outstanding Sound Editing
    • Outstanding Sound Mixing

But I’d love for the performances/writing/directing could manage to pick up nominations, someone convince me please 🥺

Martin and Short are 100% happening. They’re both legends and the show was a big hit. That category is more open than actress too.

Sudeikis, Hader, Glover, Martin, Short and possibly Hoult (if he goes lead) all seem like obvious nominees.

I agree they are legends, but I worry the Academy may put one of or both Anderson and Cheadle in instead of  Short or Martin.
