February 2, 2022 at 1:50 pm #1204766853This show is so dirty, and not in a good way. It’s so twisted this is receiving some praise for “examining the culture” due to Pamela having her privacy violated/something personal leaked without her consent and yet the show was literally made without her consent…? Make it make sense.
Plus that “greatest love story ever sold” tagline when we all know what he put her through? Vile. It’s quite something how this trend of vindication attempts to reclaim “troubled”/”misunderstood” women as of late by analyzing/putting certain traumatic moments of their lives back in the spotlight with these shows and documentaries without their input while they’re still alive quickly became another form of exploitation by the industry/media.
I’m glad some people are at least pointing out the obvious instead of just expressing how much they enjoyed watching it.
I haven't seen Pam and Tommy, so maybe my take on this is off. But if Pamela Anderson didn't give her consent and finds the series painful, aren't Hulu and the producers exploiting a hideous violation?
This isn't my idea of fun or funny.— John Lurie (@lurie_john) February 2, 2022
I was curious whether Pamela Anderson was involved in the new Hulu show & I came upon this. Honestly, it is a huge bummer that a show about a personal violation didn't get permission from the people who were harmed to tell their story.https://t.co/41eyztfDzt

I will not be watching 'Pam & Tommy'
Tommy Lee is an abuser & piece of shit who got sentenced to 6 mo. jail for beating Pamela Anderson while she held their child. The show did not get consent from Pamela Anderson. She called it a "cheap knockoff" and said "I'll never watch it" https://t.co/PSPb4vUNN7 pic.twitter.com/NPpoBZQ6KV

I'm far from the first critic to note the profound insincerity at the heart of PAM & TOMMY, which does not practice the thing it preaches over and over again. The more I think about this show, the angrier it makes me feel.https://t.co/2C6etUT0Xx

Great, somewhat damning review here by @laurz_m of Pam & Tommy, about how it exploits both its subject and the "reframing the narrative" narrative https://t.co/yo0iGbvOmz

It's creepy the way the series #PamAndTommy is being marketed. This was a relationship where there was well-documented domestic violence by Tommy against Pam including only 7 weeks after she gave birth while she was holding her infant son. #VAW

Why was Pam & Tommy, a movie basically about consent, made *without* the consent of Pamela Anderson?
— Rebecca Caine (@RebeccaCaine) January 30, 2022
the fact that Pam has explicitly stated the series/movie whatever makes her uncomfortable is tragic. Like she gets no say over it, just has to relive that trauma in the public eye allllll over again

"In a post-#MeToo climate, it’s hard to imagine any streamer green-lighting a series about the 2014 leak of nude celebrity images—let alone if the photos had been taken in the midst of an abusive relationship. Why should this be any different?"
— Taylor Trudon (@taylortrudon) February 2, 2022
It feels uncomfortable watching the dramatised version of the real life story of a woman who was subjected to a sex crime (by having her most intimate moments exposed without consent) and knowing that she didn't consent to the drama being made either! https://t.co/t3tqGAWwMQ

The big question is if the industry will care about it, and honestly I don’t know what to expect from them, I could see only Stan and James being nominated and the show being ignored, something like respecting the actors and their job but ignoring the show/producers, or getting nominations across the board.
People knew from a very long time Pamela wasn’t involved in this (and she didn’t give her consent) and no one but Courtney Love said anything about it, I mean, Hollywood loves doing films and shows about real life people, most of them already dead, but their families/relatives many times have come forward hating those films/series and no one cares. Maybe that’s why everyone is keeping their mouths shut.
Also, some social media posts about the show had likes from celebrities.

February 3, 2022 at 11:14 am #1204771309I watched the first three episodes and personally didn’t find it exploitative. In fact the show depicts even without the tape how people were undermining Anderson due to her sex appeal. I don’t know how this show would damage her image.

It’s because Pamela didn’t give her approval of the series, which technically goes against what the show is preaching about consent

February 3, 2022 at 12:00 pm #1204771578As someone who liked those three episodes I think Pamela Anderson has more than her fair share of reasons to not approve of a show being made about the most traumatising experience of her life without her consent.

February 3, 2022 at 12:13 pm #1204771624In a “post me too” Hollywood making a show about a woman who had her sex tape leaked and then not informing said woman of that show and not asking for her consent is very???

Like you have one of the costars saying they literally watched Pamela’s tape? How is that not violating? pic.twitter.com/22M6sN1J1l

February 3, 2022 at 12:17 pm #1204771649Stan really messed it up by answering that question

February 6, 2022 at 4:46 am #1204778676I like the show. I also totally understand the criticism of its production in the first place. Lily is really great here- I buy her as Pamela and feel like she’s really giving it her all. It’s well acted and executed but making Pamela relive this must be extremely triggering- she has been vocal about her pain before now.
ReplyCopy URLFebruary 6, 2022 at 6:49 am #1204778848With pain in my heart as I like both of them and have been expecting their awards breaktrough, I hope both James and Stan reject any kind of consideration for awards/nominations for the show. They would control de narrative, kind of doing the right thing after messing things up by signing in to the project, they would exclude themselves from the issue and it’s easier that way than to expect Hollywood to not nominate the show when almost everyone is watching it.
C’mon Hulu!!!! Push for a Stan nom for Fresh instead.

February 6, 2022 at 10:58 pm #1204781326This show was made to gain viewers. That’s it. This is one of those cases where I judge a book by its cover. This is fucked up all the way.
ReplyCopy URLFebruary 11, 2022 at 11:49 am #1204796964EW published this article today
ReplyCopy URLPamela Anderson has no interest watching Pam & Tommy.
The Hulu limited series (now streaming) tells the true story behind the release of her and then-husband Tommy Lee’s stolen sex tape, and a source close to Anderson tells EW that she won’t be tuning in now or ever. “I do know she’ll never, never watch this,” the source says. “Not even years from now. Not even the trailer.
Both the showrunners and series star Lily James (who plays Anderson) have previously stated they reached out to Anderson during the series’ development but never received a response. The source confirms Anderson was indeed contacted multiple times, first “years ago” long before filming, and again “while they were in post-production.” But she still wasn’t interested—unlike Lee, who EW previously confirmed spoke to Stan about the project. “Tommy doesn’t get it,” says the source. “He’s in the same mindset he was at the time: that any publicity is good publicity.”
While Pam & Tommy is all about Anderson, producers were able to develop the series without her participation (or permission) by optioning the rights to an article published by Rolling Stone in 2014 that revealed the unbelievable true story of how a disgruntled contractor working on their house stole a large safe from their garage containing the private sex tape and then released it on the internet without their consent.
“As a friend of Pamela, at least no one will ever ask me again if the tape was really stolen,” the source says. “But imagine if a celebrity today had their nudes leaked and then Hollywood recreated not just the crime but the actual nudes — that would never happen. In the ’90s, Pamela’s body was deemed by a judge to be public property. There was no question the tape was stolen property, but the court decided it wasn’t private property because her body belonged to the world.”
The source adds that after the #MeToo movement, “Pamela is somehow still the exception to the rule. She’s still up for grabs. That’s messed up. Yes, it’s brief clips — but to me the most damning aspect is that [Pam & Tommy] didn’t just tell the story, they recreated moments from the boat.”

When it comes to James’ portrayal of Anderson, the source says that Anderson “never commented on Lily’s look and would never do so. This poor starlet has had to hear that Pamela thinks she’s trash — it just never happened. The headlines around that are just totally screwed up.”
The source believes Sebastian Stan, who plays Lee in the series, “did an impressive job” and James “did a great visual — and the voice is pretty uncanny,” but the series doesn’t always capture the true Anderson. “Pamela is not that meek,” the source notes of moments like when James’ Pamela is shown hesitant to voice her opinion on the set of Baywatch. “She is not a shrinking violet and never was.”
Anderson is now “focused on her life in Vancouver,” says the source. “She doesn’t read the headlines” and “she’s happy to be focused on her philanthropic efforts and wants any press she ever gets to be about that now.”
February 11, 2022 at 1:53 pm #1204797138What I find so interesting about the show is that whilst it undoubtedly has a tonne of buzz, it feels like no one in the industry has actually commented on it. I know it’s early in the run and we’ll probably see more reactions as we go along but it makes my predictions difficult without a sense of what the word on the ground is.
