Inspired by this thread on the film side.  Feel free to post any acting snubs from Emmy nominated shows you find perplexing here.

The one that immediately come to mind for me:

Alison Brie (in everything but mainly Mad Men) –

I could go on about her miss for GLOW any day of the week but the one I really do find bizarre in hindsight was her Mad Men misses. She was a significant cast member who was competing in the guest categories for more or less the entire run of the show and she neither had a lack of name-recognition (she was on Community at the time) or memorably plum material in her way here. Add to the fact she was also sensational on the show.

Solidarity with the striking writers. Pay them the wages they are owed for bringing us the content we are all on here because of!

Ray Wise was sublime in Twin Peaks. Kyle, Piper Laurie and for some reason Sherilyn Fenn got nominations but Wise’s work (especially in the “big reveal” scene) was fantastic and shouldn’t have been ignored

Kristen Bell in The Good Place
Justin Hartley & Susan Kelechi Watson in This Is Us
    Jenifer Lewis in black-ish
    Bob Odenkirk in Breaking Bad

It is also weird for me that they did nominate Amy Poehler for (almost) every season of Parks & Rec, but they didn’t nominate more actors from the show.

The supporting cast of Parks and Recreation, especially Aubrey Plaza and Nick Offerman.

I think Modern Family is the only mockumentary show to ever do well in the acting categories.

100% this – I really thought Ray Wise would get nominated and win the Emmy award for Twin Peaks in 1991.

Gavin McCloud – Mary Tyler Moore Show – Everyone was nominated except Gavin. It had to sting to watch Ed Asner win three times and Ted Knight to win two times.

Rhea seems like the most obvious long term contemporary contender in this category. Some others (for instance, Kelechi-Watson for This Is Us) are understandable because of internal competition. Rhea is in a category that’s had really high turnover and has never gotten in.
