Catching up and Wendie Malick as Sheila’s mother in Episode 3 is such a delicious brief performance.

As someone who has had to have had similar types of rehab (although not for the same disorder depicted in the show) I don’t think I’ve recently seen a more authentic portrayal of a group counsellor on screen. You always see the love for the craft going through her in every role she plays and everything she’s in.

July 30, 2022 at 2:25 pm #1205029982I think Apple will be announcing soon that this is the last season of the show. Episode 9 gave me huge “beginning of the end” vibes, and the season finale is titled “Don’t You Say It’s Over.” This season has obviously been getting much better notices, but it’s not like s1 was attracting a ton of viewers, and s2 episodes have been receiving less than 100 ratings on IMDb. Just doesn’t seem like anyone is watching.
With how much the show improved this season, I’ll definitely be disappointed to see it go, but I’m glad it seems like they gave the writers the opportunity to wrap up Sheila’s story. Unless the season finale goes seriously sideways for her, it looks like they’ve been able to set up a somewhat satisfying ending.

July 30, 2022 at 2:51 pm #1205030016I have been worried of it getting axed due to it not really generating many eyeballs for Apple and it not really having that much of an audience base. If there isn’t going to be a season 3 I do hope the show ends satisfyingly and in the way its creators want it to.

August 6, 2022 at 10:23 am #1205036624That finale was definitely the weakest episode of the season. It’s disappointing to say this about a creator, but Annie Weisman is clearly dragging the show down. She’s the worst writer on staff.
Still a great season overall, though.

August 6, 2022 at 11:02 am #1205036683It wasn’t necessarily a bad episode but I guess I kind of found it boring? The only point of it was to set up the final scene and if it weren’t for how compelling the performances were I don’t think I’d have really understood what was happening during it. It almost felt like a really good script was written in pencil and then someone accidentally erased half of it.
But still I’m stunned by how much this season improved from the first’s unevenness. Aside from the sub-plot with Greta and her husband I thought this season had really gripping character driven arcs and both its social commentary and the show’s tone felt much cleaner which I’m really surprised to say considering how insufferable I found the husband character (and Scovel’s performance) last season. Even when he was insufferable in the finale you could really understand him as an antagonist thanks to the build up from earlier in the season.
In a just world Bartlett (it’s probably a testament to how strong his impact was that had he appeared in one episode less he would have been guest eligible) and Byrne would be major threats at next year’s Emmys and depending on the eventual field I’d even say Gunn, Malick and Wright would be deserving of guest nominations. Byrne in particular continues to give one of the best performances on television right now (if not the best). There’s just so much to dissect from her performance.

August 6, 2022 at 11:39 am #1205036764This season was improvement on season 1. Specially with husband character.
I’m glad that we finally moving into how she becomes famous bc it was dragging a bit.
I still find that they main problem is that they don’t know what to do with most of side characters. Apart from earlier episode with the tape , the surfer couple had noting to do . Same as religious guy that she had affair with.
