As I do every year, I need the help of my Gold Derby pals in this year’s Emmy voting. As an Emmy voter in the Writers Branch, I have been overwhelmed with screener links from comedy shows that I haven’t had time to watch this season. I’m asking you to offer the ONE comedy script that you would cheer if it got a nod on nomination day. Please don’t give me a list of two or three scripts — I’m looking for help on the ONE about which you feel most passionate. As always, thank you all in advance for your help on this — my goal is to submit the most responsible ballot I can, and I couldn’t do it without you. Thanks.

The finale is absolutely what they should submit, but they are avoiding it because they think that it is too musical for the writing category. They are tentatively also submitting the pilot, but nobody thinks that it is the best episode and I am concerned that it would turn you off the show, given your aversion to the similar humour on Silicon Valley, by which I mean the nonstop dick jokes. The finale might as well, so maybe they are onto something. “Hype Man” is a pretty singular achievement though and a significant departure from that ultimately that I think stands to really win you over with its heart. Why are you reporting this post?
