As I do every year, I need the help of my Gold Derby pals in this year’s Emmy voting. As an Emmy voter in the Writers Branch, I’m beginning to be overwhelmed with screener links from comedy shows that I haven’t had time to watch this season. I’m asking you to offer the ONE comedy script that you would cheer if it got a nod on nomination day. Please don’t give me a list of two or three scripts — I’m looking for help on the ONE about which you feel most passionate. As always, thank you all in advance for your help on this — my goal is to submit the most responsible ballot I can, and I couldn’t do it without you. Thanks.

Hi Helmetz glad to hear from you! This is my favourite Gold Derby event of the Emmy season!

My choice would be “There is No Line” from HBO Max’s Hacks (Written by Lucia Aniello, Paul Downs and Jen Statsky)

FYC: Better Call Saul and The Good Fight in all categories including Bob Odenkirk, Christine Baranski and Rhea Seehorn.

It’s an obvious pick, but definitely “Make Rebecca Great Again” from Ted Lasso (written by Jason Sudekis, Joe Kelly, and Brendan Hunt)

FYC Oscars: Licorice Pizza (Best Picture, Best Director, Original Screenplay), The Mitchells vs The Machines (Best Picture, Animated Feature, Original Screenplay), Wes Anderson (Best Director), Denzel Washington (The Tragedy of MacBeth), Andrew Garfield and Robin de Jesus (Tick, Tick...BOOM!), Jayne Houdyshell (The Humans), Stephen Karam (Adapted Screenplay), Attica and Summer of Soul (Best Documentary)

FYC Razzies: Dear Evan Hansen (in all eligible categories)

I think me going through my episode grades for the year and realising my current pick would be “Cancel Culture” from The Politician illustrates the dire state of the comedy field this year
