Thanks Helmetz for creating this annual thread again (one of my favourite parts of May!)

Forwardswill already mentioned what my first choice was going to be (The Other Two) so I’ll just go onto my second choice here:

    Somebody Somewhere (“BFD”)

It’s just a show that feels so lived in and poetic from the very first page. In the space of seven half hour episodes you’re introduced to characters who are so well developed from the offset that you honestly feel like you’re spending actually time in these scenes with these characters. The show at its core is about a woman journeying through grief and a mid-life crisis and whilst that journey does receive some form of a spiritual conclusion at the end of the season, the way the show’s characters really navigate its heartfelt humour is really something special to watch. I could watch 40 episodes of Somebody Somewhere or I could just watch this season and drop it and honestly I would feel just as satisfied with both scenarios. A rare delight.

    FYC:

"The Good Fight", "The Other Two" and "Station Eleven" in all categories, Sarah Lancashire ("Julia"), William Jackson Harper ("Love Life") and Luke Kirby ("The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel")

Count me in for a vote for “How Do You Get to Carnegie Hall?” from The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. I too was a little mixed on the season as a whole but thought the writing (and directing) for the final was fantastic

For laugh out loud joy, I enthusiastically suggest Hacks. The writing in The Captain’s Wife (Ariel Karlin and Pat Regan) is a stand out.

Hacks “The One, The Only” is maybe my favorite episode of television in years.

Also, I know this is a sleeper, but check out Minx‘s pilot. Less artistic than Hacks but still very charming and fun.

Thank you all so much for all of your suggestions. You gave me a lot of great titles to watch, and I can definitely see a lot of possible nominees within your suggestions. Nominations voting begins on MONDAY June 16, so if you have any additional last-minute comedy script suggestions, please shoot them to me in the next day or two so that I can have a chance to review. Thank you so much, Derby-ites!

Check out this new workplace sitcom on ABC called Abbott elementary. It has a number of well written episodes. I’ve been hearing a lot of good things about it from my industry and non acting friends. I found the show to be quite compelling.
